http://www.catsexotics.com/web/1317/...hini-Jarama-GT Ok, here is the deal with this car. First it no longer has the spinner center caps, they have been replaced with standard USA version caps. I bouoght this car in a 5 car collection. I have had it fully serviced, fluids filters, plugs etc etc..but after about driving it 100 miles it starts to foul plugs and runs rough. I have had it back to the local shop here twice now. I am now being told that it may need new points are the carbs rebuilt to stop the fouling of plugs. To be quite frank, I bought the car right and am just not in the mood to keep putting money into. So knowing this, maybe some one else wants to take it from here. Other then the plugs fouling out, the car is in very very good condition. Call with any questtions..sold as is with the plug fouling issue. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Roy, I'm guessing it needs the valves adjusted if it's fouling the plugs. Just a guess -- cuz nobody ever adjusts the valves! So they eventually hang open and foul the plugs. How many miles? Anyway, cool car at a good price. Wish I was looking. Cheers, Fred
I will have to double check, but dont bet on the books and tools..I think they have been aquired to another vehicle, but I will check,.,,for now say no.
just a tick over 25,000 miles. The car is in extremely nice condition. I am not a mechanic, but several I have spoke to tell me it really needs new updated points and MSD ignition to fire hot and correct as not to foul the plugs..? It is what is is...I just dont have the time nor the want to deal with the older cars..I am more into the Diablos..as you all know. I think this car is a STEAL at this price...but the estimates I have been getting or 1000 bucks or so..this is a perfect car for the self mechanic that can get it to run right with out plugs fouling...everything else on the car is in good working order and it has brand new tires on it as well.
Forgive me for pointing some things out but those that don't know the Jarama well should be advised. First, this is not a Jarama S model, it is a Jarama GT(despite the badging). The S model had some modest body changes, and thinner seat backs for more leg room in back. It also had uprated engine power, and better insulation. Some S models had an added oil cooler and also better heat shielding around the tunnel. Running changes made these cars somewhat of a buyers delight to see what various serial numbers had, and didn't have in terms of improvements. The early carbed V-12 is notorious for running rich due to carb settings. It's a tricky thing to get right, and if the car isn't driven much things get sticky and commonly lead to fouling. So, a carb rebuild is the first order of business. After that, a check of the valve lash is in order as mentioned. I've always found the dual coil ignition to be up to the task as long as the point gap was set correctly on all four sets. The best way to do this is to remove the dist from the car, and set the points on the bench, then reinstall and set the timing to factory, then adjust for fuel avail. Absolute worst case with all very low mileage cars is stuck rings, or even broken rings. This will also cause oil migration up into the combustion chambers. I only mention this in the interest of full disclosure. A leakdown test is a must for buying this car with a plug fouling issue. It's also kind of sad that the car was stripped of the long-ear spinners, and tools and then offered for sale. Replacing these factory items will run around $4-6000. I would be interested if it were offered in original trim. Adding back the missing bits, and sorting the engine tuning or fuel/oil fouling issues would put it well over $30k, depending on what is found.
Thanks for your comments.. First the car WAS NEVER said to be an "S" or adverstised as such, it just has an "S" badge on it from the previous owner.. Second If you think you can find a Jarma in this condition with the dog ear spinners and tools..for $30K..you need to buy it.. It just never seems to amaze me the people that think cars are worth $5 bucks..and the ones that even have $5 bucks never buy anything anyways...
Well, Roy, I think we need to be fair here. You probably bought it factoring in the value you could get for the toolkit, as evidenced by the fact that you removed it, and then offered the car for sale for $30K+ on your web site. I'm not blaming you for doing this, by the way, I would probably have done the same. I'm simply suggesting that people in glass houses should not throw stones. $27K is not an unfair deal - probably close to parts value. I'm guessing you bought it for $17K or something.
Well, (whoever, sorry dont know your name) we need to use facts here.. 1) I bought it in a 5 car deal..had nothing to do with its tools, I wanted three of the other cars, BUT had to buy the 5 to get it. 2) as I stated EARLIER, I was not sure about the tools till I checked the back of the car as it is in another wharehouse about 2 miles from my office. GOD FORBID I said yes and later I did not have them. **Guess what, prior to your second guessing, the tools ARE still in the trunk and are INCLUDED in the sale**...as the picture on the webiste shows.. 3) $27,500 NOT $27,000 is more than a FAIR deal it is a HELL of a Deal 4) If you think I got this car for $17K, you are so far off base on the cost of cars now...you need to buy a car from 5 years ago..then maybe it was $17K
**UPDATE** The car is no longer for sale at this Fire Sale price....after review of the car at my warehouse today, finding it has still all its books, tools, SUPER low miles, paint excellent, interior all there and operative and in excellent shape..AND all OEM equipment I consulted with some highly skilled techs at George Evans facility and other locations.. I am sending this car off to have them make it right.. and have an excellent car..which when complete will be offered at a later date as a perfect operating machine and become price reflective at that time. Thanks for all the input. Roy Cats
I think it hilarious that people make a fuss over missing tools that are never used anyway and are crap quality. What difference does it make to the overall condition and desirability of the CAR?
LOL yep cant understand either..guess its bad to be missing the OEM tools... BUT it is OK to have NON OEM Euro Dog Ear spinners on a USA Version car that NEVER came with those spinners to the USA for DOT reasons.. so I guess osme see it Grey when its black and some see it black when its grey..
Can't blame you Roy for that move. As I said, $27K(ish) is a fair deal for the car as-is - $27,500 for the car with books and tools is a great deal. $17k might sound cheap, but $27,500 - $7000 for books and tools, plus a little bit for profit puts my guess right in the wheelhouse, based on the information I had at the time. You can be upset if you want, but I'm sure we both have had plenty of experiences where sellers show one thing in the pictures, and those rare pieces are then not delivered with the car. You yourself admitted that this was probably the case in an earlier post.
I would fix it too. It's probably a weak ignition system. Points off, coils go bad, corrosion in the cap, bad plug wires, etc. Possibly bad float level (sticking, bad float,or just off), which is fairly easy to check without removing the carbs (top comes off of each one & can be checked without draining the fuel or removing the air cleaners).
Hahaha, $27,500 is fricken cheap. Anyone who wanted one just lost out. I'll say it again, S or non-S, the non-S is better. Better (MUCH BETTER) wheels and hubs, cooler, non modern dash and back seat. And the 15hp difference........so what? Does it make it 20 or 30k less.....no. I was selling mine a few months back, but when I get it back from Chad......probably keeping it. Remember the Islero.................................... Let's bring up this thread in a few years
also, I don't have the tool kit for my Countach, Urraco, or Jarama. Am I searching for them, nope. I have Snap-On and Craftsman in the cars. If they came up for a realistic price, I may.
.......................................................................................................................................I think it was going to sell at the price you listed at, but with the 2 days you had it out there, well its only 2 days , IMO it was a steal , if somebody is going to buy a car like this, the original tools are irrelevant, I think it would be a miracle if a older car had the original tool kit .
Getting a bit off trach here..but a good thing to talk about..."Frickn tools and books" I totaly understand there are two types of buyers out there.. One that buys it, puts it in the garage and stares at it..and once in while "Trailers" it to the show..OK..if you are in to that and you want bragging rights of all orginal including window sticker book tools..fine good for you. Then there is me..I drive the frick thing..and the more you drive it and exercise it..it should not need the tool kit to fix anything LOL But serious, first I nor 99% of us would not have the FRICKN idea what tool to use OR how to fix what ever it was on the road..we CALL AAA and bring by flatbed to the shop. The books, yes, important, but the orginal one....again big deal..you can re-print or buy re-production from just about any car today..and they all operate the basics anyways..whats to read..? I mean its not like it is a first print Book of rare poems..it just tells you where the switches are and what they do...HELL the parts/service mechanic book is WAY more important then the Drivers handbook. I can say for sure..there is NO WAY I would ever use any tool from the tool kits, OLD or NEW cars..maybe in a stretch the air inflator for a flat tire in the middle of no where..and when was the last time we REALLY read the book, front to back..yea OK.. Drive the dang car for enjoyment and carry your AAA card..the Gold one of course, gives you 300 mile free towing...worth every penny to be a member
I am a bit of getting old fashioned and stubborn in my later years...LOL LOL I pulled it from sale becuase I got tired of the countless phone calls...all asking the same stupid questions.. Why is it so cheap,,is it salvaged title, is it wrecked now, did the motor blow up..and once you got past that..do you have orginal first title or copy of it, LOL LOL, or do you have the orginal sales sticker and all service records with books and tools from day one.. DO you have the DOT papers...on and on with questions that are respectave of a $50K car..not one at this price.. I wanted to let it go to a forum member that would get a great deal and tune it up and has the love for the older cars in the way I have the love for the Diablos..we all have our segement of car era we love.. but after basicaly so many "sarcastic" calls...I saw the writing on the wall...it would go to someone and they would throw a fit that they did not get a "perfect" car when it arrived.. SO I am going to keep it and MAKE it a perfect car just like that last Jarama I sold a few weeks ago...and it WILL sell and be price reflective at time of sell..
Let me get this straight,Jarama 12 cyl,5spd run's,drives need's some tuning, god forbid a bit more,at 27,500 this is a gift to an enthusiast that know's how to work on these car's or has someone that know's how.Year's ago I nearly bought one at 21,000 that blew blue smoke like a train did not care oil is cheap and was planning to overhaul it.Roy if I ever decide to add to or replace my 550 with a bull I will certainly call you ,I still don't know how you could put up with the question's at that price, good luck with the tuning hope it go's to someone that appreciate's it and drive's it,tool kit or not.
