    Details & History:

Finished in its original shade of Fly Yellow, this handsome 246 GTS is one of the 91 US export cars that were originally equipped with the “Chairs and Flares” option combination.

The identity of the original owner is currently unknown, although in 1978 this Dino was acquired by Larry Foy of San Francisco, California. In 1981, the Dino was acquired by Dr. Larry M. Stilinovic of Yakima, Washington, who retained possession of this beautiful Ferrari for a full 15 years before offering it for sale in 1996. In August 1996, 05820 was acquired by Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo, a dealership based in Portland, Oregon that lays claim to being the oldest Ferrari dealer in the United States. Recognizing this Dino’s rarity of options and their growing cachet among Ferrari collectors, Ron Tonkin embarked on a comprehensive rotisserie restoration that took four years and amassed over $91,000 in receipts. The restoration comprised the replacement or refurbishment of every single component and part, including a complete engine and transmission rebuild, comprehensive re-wiring and a thorough restoration with all new paint and interior. After completion in January 2001, this 246 GTS was proudly displayed in the Tonkin showroom before being acquired in 2002 by an enthusiast in Scottsdale, Arizona, from whom it passed to a well-known Ferrari collector based in Southern California.

In 2012 this Dino was refreshed with an all-new interior. The 246 GTS was also fastidiously detailed with new correct undercarriage coating, color-sanded paint and fresh Michelin XWX tires. This refurbishment was at 33,500 miles, which was only about 625 additional miles since its comprehensive restoration. The 246GTS was presented by RM Auctions in March of 2012 and sold for a record $363,000 at that time.

In late 2016 this Dino underwent a complete service and along with a rejuvenation throughout the vehicle with attention to every detail. Ready for immediate delivery. Inspections welcomed!

Why is that so important? Doesn't the condition and miles matter more?

Who was the original owner? What is the big deal not disclosing it?

GLWS. But I agree, if the original owner is "not unknown" why not clue the rest of the world into it?

Because this is supposed to be an informative forum. If you aren't planning to disclose what you know to the forum, why bother making a mention of it?

Agreed, but I see so many times members becoming utterly psychotic wanting to know who drove a car/who owned a car/who sat in a car. Maybe the former owner doesn't want his identity disclosed? There is always that element of "none of your business."

Can't agree with you more BUT if you are not planning to disclose any info, why would you tease others on the forum? This is childish behavior.

    All,

I wasn't trying to create a frenzy of debate about not posting back on this thread.

    I am a Dino guy.

    I collect Dino stuff.

The history of this car is what it is today. Please don't interpret my post as making this something other than being about the Dino.

At the end of the day , if you had a real question, you can always email me.

Whats up with the steering wheel. I have never seen one on a dino before like that. Beautiful car. Ron Tonkin was known for his yellow cars, I purchased a yellow tan 360 from him about 10 years ago. I remember he had a purple dino for a while as well.

This special Dino may soon be committed to a major auction.
Finding a US delivery "Flares & Chairs" in the original factory color(restored of course) with low miles is extremely rare.
NOTE: I personally do NOT trust the miles on European Dinos due to experience.
$30k in recent receipts taking care of every little item including service.
    Truly a rare opportunity.

I remember seeing this car, stripped down to its frame, on the rotisserie in the shop at RTGT back in 1996/1997 --- cool to see it again today !

IIRC, the car was originally yellow as well.

And, also, if I am not mistaken, the "original owner" was Tonkin himself (or perhaps one of his sons)....... so there --- cat out of the bag :)

Beautiful Dino! Has it been Ferrari Classiche Certified? With all the work done by Ron Tonkin, would imagine it would be an easy car to get certified. GLWS.

That is a Momo Prototipo, I first saw them arrive on the 308GT4 cars. They have a slightly smaller diameter tahn stock Dino wheel and that mes the Prototipo amazingly superior to Drive a 246 Dino

    Not correct.

For those speculating why I don’t post original owner info, would you wanting me posting info about you if I had it?

This isn’t some secret, and nothing anyone would really give a darn about.

And as expected, no one emailed or requested more specific info from me.

According to the link provided in post #19, it sold some time ago..... apparently sometime back in 2017 ---- sale price was not disclosed, but it was offered at $529,500 / offer.
