I recently bought a 1973 Merak which needs a bit of tlc in the engine area. Not a mechanic but capable to do basic services and adjustments and always willing to learn. The clutch is slipping when applying power so can anyone assist me with the correct adjustment procedure please. Photo of the clutch. It may be time for a new one as does appear not much thead left.

  2. Generally adjusting a clutch slave cylinder for more travel, is done when there is problem engaging gears & does nothing to help clutch slippage. If the slave was adjusted too far in, it could cause slippage. I think you have a bad clutch.

What you want to make sure is that when the clutch pedal is not being pressed the pressure plate is completely at rest. This is accomplished by providing some free play between the throw-out bearing and the pressure plate. Try moving the clutch lever with your hand, you should feel some movement. If not, loosen the adjustment until you can move the lever with your hand. If there is free play and the clutch slips then you need a new clutch.
