I'm in a position now to potentially consider acquiring a Dino and, at the same time, I was referenced to something claiming to be local: a 1974 246GTS. However, of all places, it's listed on Craigslist!!! I am hesitant to make any sort of contact, but the listing does show actual people, the Dino, and the plates on the cars - and, indeed, by the plates on the cars, it's relatively clear that the Dino shown is likely not just vapor. Does anyone one the board recognize this Dino, the fellows standing by it, or the license tag: it is an Ohio historical/vintage plate, 031XVR. This is a link to the CL posting: FERRARI DINO 1974 Again, while I'm fortunately in a position to afford a Dino now, I don't want to make contact if anyone can alert me here to this not being what it portends to be. Much thanks.

$300K cars do not show up on Craig's List.

Call the number, tell them you'd like to see the car, and meet the owner. Tell them you want to see the title, and you'd like to see ID on the seller because of the unusual nature of the car being on CL.

If they're real, which I highly doubt, they'll understand. If they're scammers, which I suspect, they'll give you a phony address and disappear over the rainbow.

Oh, and if they WILL meet, make sure it's in a VERY public place.

Agreed with all that. My question is not how to approach this, but whether to approach it at all in the first place. Where it's claimed to be is less than 10 minutes from my own home - but those photos don't look current (trees/leaves/grass) - heck, it's November 19, and it's snowing here. I was hopeful that someone on the board might recognize this Dino, know who owns it, and inform the board that (A) no, this isn't for sale by the owner, and it's a fraud, so stay away, or (B) yes, that's the owner, and yes, it is for sale. I do not want to risk actual contact at all, especially through CL, if it's nothing but a fraud, as I'd not want to provide any sort of contact or personal information, including my phone number. So -clarifying things - does anyone (A) recognize this particular Dino, and/or (B) recognize the folks in the photo?

I communicated with owner via email. He's had it since 1978. Claims very nice condition, driver car in mostly original condition - has been offered $320,000 or wants that. Good luck.

Zzoott. You can rely on any info from Matthias, who has published the authorative book on all Dinos. You can also consult the ..dinoregister on the internet, which lists most of the individual Chassis numbers. The car you refer to has had two owners, the current one being Hennessey. If that is who you are talking to,then, you have no problem. If not, then go careful.

Although the DinoRegister is generally full of great info, it isn't always accurate.

Technically, they have the first owner wrong.
