On a 1974 Boxer, Should the control arms bushings on the rear suspension be rigid babbitt type? (as on the front suspension) - or unitized 1 piece silent block type (as on later cars)?

    Thanks Guys!

Thank you Cavallino70. My car does have one piece silent bushings on the rear. I don’t think they have been replaced - but perhaps they have. My parts books show one piece, but the books also show a publish date of 1976. There were quite a few update changes up to 1976. And with many more cars being built as 512 cars in 1976, the one piece bushings would help cut costs. I was thinking perhaps they should/could have been babbitt type in the earlier 365 days.

Do you have further information on this?

Actually, 330 GTC/275 GTB/4 cars began the use of silentbloc bushings in the inner pivots of the rear suspension. Daytona's, and all Boxers use them also. It was done to make the cars suspension quieter and more compliant with road shocks. The multipiece bushings are actually teflon lined, not babbitt.
