Was driving and all of a sudden started making weird noise. I turned around and she shut down on its own. Tried to start and won't crank. It's locked up.
Belts are still on. What could of happened? There was a little smoke for a while coming out of the air duct on the passengers side.

Yes, fuel pump turns on but will not crank over. Looks like jammed. I too thought coolant but oil looks good. Belts are still on and did not break. All I can think is valve. Was weird as all of a sudden started making noise, I pulled over mad a U turn and it shut off. Tried to crank and locked up.
Any have input or I will start pulling engine. Kind of sucks as just finished putting headers on and muffler this morning.....took her for a spin and was fine. Went back out for a spin and this.....

It sounded like the exhaust dropped to the ground and I was dragging something before it shut down.....what could that possibly be.....valve?

Right cyl head .....took plugs out and no signs of damage. Left cyl head, couldn't remove first plug.......others OK. Tells me must be damage in 1 cyl.
If anyone knows anyone looking for a project car.....will sell to top bid. Don't have time right know for this and will sell the car.
Car is good shape......straight ad would make great driver.
If I don't get what I want then will keep car until I can tackle as don't have the time to do so.
Car is complete with tools, jack, owners manual and the spare is brand new as never used. Just changed the exhaust on weekend and this happened.

Zman, sorry to hear this. I have been in a similar situation on my s1 Gt4. The thrill of ownership was quickly dashed on the rocks of reality. Mine was tired but straight/original. Basically you replace/fix everything thats tired (what wasnt?) and enjoy the originality thats left!!!! I have kept at it and have a strong car (touch wood) but which is cosmetically challenged. I have learnt a ton about the car and myself doing it, but it took time, effort, tears and $$.

Might I suggest at this point get an expert opinion on whats going on. I believe there is someone locally to you who knows these cars very well.

Rock used to post here but not often seen anymore. I have never had any dealings with him but I believe others have and maybe they could chime in on their experiences. I think he owned/still owns a Gt4. You could also look up Newman here (lots of postings in the Boxer section) although he may have his hands full with Boxers!

Just a thought. Whatever you do, I beg please dont try and re-engine the car with a Subaru engine or somesuch (yes, its been tried). Either fix it, or sell it to someone who will. Thats just my wish, however, it's your car to do as you please!

btw, whats the S/n - mine is #10402.

    Good luck.

Thanks.10312 is the SN. I called rocks for a paint job and he is quite expensive.
I'm a mechanic by trade and not issue about doing the repairs but it's no time and limited money. I know that if I open her up, I'm going to upgrade and will not stop there so I know how much the parts cost.
Would be nice to go to a home how will bring her back. I paid a pretty penny for her but of course now with the engine issue will be reduced.
