Excellent work Jay! I was wondering, the suspension components you show before and after pictures of... did you powdercoat them, or paint them? How did you prep the parts?

    Looks great Jay,

I am nearly finished a similar exercise on a 1979 car. I had about 500 photos but unfortunately my house was broken into about 2 weeks ago and they stole the computer with all the photos!, bit of a bummer.

When I get the job finished in the next month or so I will post a few photos.

    Excellent job

    Tom

The only new suspension parts are the Konis. Everything else was cleaned in a parts washer, then sandblasted or put on a wire brush, then painted with an industrial spray paint, some parts were painted with a spray gun and automotive paint but I can't remember which was which :).

Looks like all the time and hard work has payed off, thats one sweet looking car. Must be even more of a thrill to drive knowing that you did all the work, enjoy it often.

    Jay,

Thank you for the link to this thread.

I know I already read this several times; But you are truely ARE inspiration!

And I too would be embarrassed to park mine next to yours. Especially until I get my bumpers fixed like yours.

    Are those regular 308GTB/S bumpers?

    Fantastic job! WOW!
Did the car come in boxes of pieces? How did you figure out what went where? I have a hard time remembering how to put something together when I took it apart and have all the pieces labeled!

How did you get the engine so clean??? If mine were that clean, I would never drive it, so I guess it's a good thing mine is filthy! ;)

Pretty much in pieces, previous owner bought it that way and was going to turn it into a track car, but never had time. Spent many hours with the spare parts manual and at Rock's shop looking at other GT4's. While the engine was out we scrubbed it and then replated everything. Wouldn't you know it the cam seals are leaking and they are brand new!

    Okay Jay,

I gotta ask. How did you get the spring back down long enough to put the retaining ring back on, the gearshift lever, when it's burried inside that little box!

I gotta know! I gotta know!

I've spent about 6hrs with mine, and finally gave up. I tried pushing with screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, needle-nose pliers. I even bought 2 large C-clamps and tried to put shims on the spring to get it down, but couldn't get it down evenly. And the c-clamps are so d***ed BIG, they got stuck on the shift lever housing... etc.. etc... etc.... Oh gawd, what a mess!

Anyway, I'd really like to get my Reverse-safety working again. Not that I'd really "shift" into reverse unintentionally. But it does preclude me from freely offering someone else the chance to drive the car!

    Like my son! .......hmmmmm.

~Perhaps technical mediocrity, has it's finally found its' virture!

I don't think many cars look good in yellow but this one sure does. Very nice job.
