I have an opportunity to purchase a 75 GT4 with 100k miles for $15k. What is this car worth in fair condition running? Anything I should look for? I Don't need the car but if would be nice project.

Is this the one on Craigs list? If so, it looks like it could be a timebomb. I would offer $10k

I dont know what car you are looking at but generally speaking If you went out and bought a really nice example for 30K,you would still be infront then buying one for 15k that needs just as much work unless you are paying just for parts and can do all works needed

I paid about the same for my GT4 with 80k miles. It's not perfect, but it has been reliable and the 2 services it's had held no expensive surprises.

There are all sorts of things to check for, but most important for me would be evidence of regular recent use and servicing.

    Thanks for the advice,

I guess it belongs in the hands of a mechanic, hope it finds a good home. From what I hear they are pretty reliable if you don't care much for accesories etc.

there was / is a white over black 75 gts for sale at that price in southern florida. i think the car is save able, but it will cost alot of time and money to fix everything it needs to be able to jump in and drive it away from home with confidence. the cracked windshield and the dents in the roof, bonnet and rear deck lid from the coconuts during one of the hurricanes worried me. then you have the old cooling hoses, brake lines, fuel lines, tires, timing belt service, and so on.

so how good is a $15k ferrari like this now, when you can buy a nice driver and enjoy it as soon as its delivered, for a few grand more?

working on them for fun is one thing, but the beaters take months to sort out before you can trust them enough to drive them anywhere far from home.

oh yea, fire sucks, and old ferrari's love to burn.

i like the cheap beaters too, but i take them apart and fix them on no set time frame, and learn from each car.

    i am on my 5th 308 now. :)

All old cars are timebombs. The trick is determining how much fuse is left. Cars wear out over time. Cars wear out the more you drive them and cars wear out just sitting in the garage.

This car isn't a good choice unless you are really into fixing up old cars and have some experience doing so. This car might be a good choice if you are into fixing up old cars, especially at $10k. But you have to decide what you want. The people telling you that this car can swallow $20k are abosolutely right. But if you don't care if it looks like a beater, you don't NEED to replace the interior or fix cosmetics. If the engine is healthy it would be a good deal for $10k (it is likely worth that parted out, btw) and might be ok for $15k if your standards are low. The downside is that for $10k more you could get a nice GT4, and to make this car nice will take (a) a whole lot of time and substantial work; or (b) that $10k price differential and probably more; or (c) both a and b.

But $25k 308s are timebombs as well. It is hard to see how much fuse is left on any old car.

I just noticed that tail lights on that car are GTB/S lights. That looks familiar with the blue paint and modded tail lights. I think that car was for sale not too long ago (a year?) Get the VIN and search here and/or ask DStacy for a little background.
