My Merak needs to sell, I have another Maserati I've found I'd like to buy, I cannot have both sadly. Lots of pictures and information available, as well as receipts and paperwork. A FL and CA car, if you'd like more information than the eBay ad, please PM, I'd be glad to help. Asking $26,500, or please make me an offer. Car is located in Roseville, CA @ my friends shop.

    Thanks,

    Ken

I looked at a beautiful example while I was in High school. It was a bank repo. It was almost in new condition. I was captivated by the 200mph speedo and the name of the marque. At the time, I thought the Merak was a 200mph race car with the speedo and looks to match.

I believe the bank repo car, was priced around the same as a new Corvette ?

I also remember brand new Bi-Turbos sitting on the lot unsold.

The salesman opened the hood and it did not take long to notice surface rust.

love it, as an owner of a jalpa and a 308, i have delusions of completing the trilogy and comparing one to another. At that price, what a deal.

Thanks for the welcome comments gents. I'm not sure it'll sell today off the eBay, been quite a weird auction though, I posted my phone number, have not had ONE call! Maybe I put too much information lol? Sledge, play your cards right, you sound like a good home for her ;)

I need another old, slow, valueless Italian money pit like I need a hole in my head :)

Just kidding, looks like a super cool car, will get one some day, timing isn't right now as I am obsessing on a Diablo.

    Good luck sir

My reserve is met! @ $23,000, IMHO, I think that's a pretty decent price for a lot of car, but now here comes the agony...Will the eBayer's pay!?!? Always seem to "whoops, my 5 year old clicked the bid option...I have no money!" Makes me lose my mind...

I have had that happen numerous times.

My favorite was a guy from California bidding on my TR6. Talked to him twice on the phone, answered multiple emails, etc. He won the auction. Try to contact him to complete the deal and he claims his account was hacked. There are a LOT of f^€&ed up people out there.

Part of the eBay agreement that people will take advantage of:

"For motor vehicles and real estate, a bid or offer initiates a non-binding transaction representing a buyer's serious expression of interest in buying the seller's item and does not create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller."

So unfortunately for the seller, someone can win the car and then just ignore it and not be punished at all by eBay.

Hope the sale does go through for you!

^ I did not know that vehicle auctions on Ebay were non-binding. Probably why a lot of listing include all kinds of language that says "when you enter a bid it becomes a contract to buy....blah, blah, blah, make sure you have your money ready, etc. "
    Interesting.

I'm really frusterated. I know this "buyer" from Denmark (not dissing Danes) isn't going to pay or probably even contact me! I sent a congrats email last night, nothing in reply and eBay does NOTHING to reprimand these time wasters. So now I'm out a 7 day auction, fees and have to re-market...sometimes, I really just hate people

Welcome to eBay. Sorry that this has happened to you. Give it a couple of days, especially if it's an overseas buyer. However, don't hold your breath that it's going to go through.

Having said the above, as a dealer, I get more leads and ultimate sales through eBay than through any other medium, especially for Ferraris and the exotics.

I've always had a soft spot for the Merak. Would love to add one to my personal collection; just not interested in a project. Good luck with your sale; it's certainly priced appropriately.

Ken, sorry to hear... and on top of that ebay will not let you leave negative feddback, and ready for this? The buyer can leave negative feedback for you. AND ebay can charge you for the sale.. Ask me how I know...

I just sold a lotus to an idiot in Europe, never contacted me or answered my requests so I re-listed with a buy it now, sold instantly I couldn't leave him negative feedback and when he contacted me in a week he was pissed i sold it. And left me negative feedback. My add stated payment due in 24 hours.

Ebay charged me for both sales.

I will help spread the word, this is a nice car and it will sell.

Thanks Jason. Appreciate the positive thoughts on it and I think someone will be very happy to own her. It's pretty ludicrous eBay does this, I really only list there for good exposure and sometimes can sell it "after the fact", but when the bid was met, I guess I expect some sort of chivalry in the world, but people who waste my time and my money go to the bottom of the bucket.

Brandon- I guess to a dealer the Merak is a project? I would consider it a driver condition car, but maybe in the retail world it would be considered a project. Hopefully she finds a good home.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend by that statement. I am looking for a Merak for my own personal collection, not to resell. From what I could tell, your car had some needs, which is why you had it priced below market value. I'm sorry if I misinterpreted that. It looks like a fantastic car, and I love the color combination.

No worries, I wasn't offended, just confused if I had portrayed it as such in the ad. You are correct though it does have some needs, and paint to me is not a small need, I just tend to see cars that run and drive as just that, but I think your correct, it could probably be considered a project (drive and wrench on in the meantime type). If you are interested in an SS either as an easy project or an SS as a collector condition, I know of a few that could be had most likely.

I was at the New York Auto Show in 1975 and the Merak was my favorite. They had a red example on display as I recall. My dad probably has a picture in a box somewhere that we took at the show. I still have a soft spot for them.

'I don't always hack eBay accts, but when I do I buy TR6's!!' eBay!!!!!!!

eBay sucks for selling cars but like brandonmotors says they get the attention and it's a BUNCH of eyeballs. I get the value of page views/clicks with big websites (heck, I'm in that biz) but it never ceases to amaze me that nobody has come up with something better than eBay after all these yrs.

In any case great car again-GLWS

I have made (3) attempts to contact the buyer, and he has not responded. Tomorrow I'm eligible through eBay to open up a "resolution". So, is my best bet to do that, than re-list at the high bid price? I contacted both under bids that were close, but neither responded. I thought this was pretty short money for a decent Italian "driver", but maybe I'm off? Who knows these days!

At this point, my advice is to forget about the buyer and relist. If they were a serious buyer for something like this, they would have contacted you by now.

I would also suggest doing a "best offer" listing instead of an auction. Although there's always the possibility that you'll get a higher price with an auction, you'll deal with deadbeat buyers.
