I have recently purchased a 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB (fibreglass). The car was ordered in May 1976, built in October 1976 and delivered to the dealer in the UK in December 1976. The original documentation shows on the order form from the dealer that the wheels stated are "Five cast-alloy wheels, tyres" and subsequent factory documentation shows " Five wheels and tyres". I know from other documentation and research that the tyres size was 205 x 70 x 14. I have read that the cars were fitted with either 6 1/2 x 14 or 7 1/2 x 14 magnesium alloy wheels.

My car currently has the 16" after market wheels and what looks like an original slim "dino" space saver spare wheel.

My question is, what are the correct original wheels for my car ? Should the car have 6 1/2 x 14 or 7 1/2 x 14 magnesium alloy wheels? And should it have 5 wheels like that (including the spare) or only 4 road wheels, because the spare is correct.

Thanks in advance for any help.

UK Glass 308's were factory 14x6 1/2 with the spare on early cars being a "spacesaver"(even though they were illegal in the UK at the time....then a 14x61/2

virtually all US Delivered 308's came on the 14x7 1/2 wheels. Spare was a normal alloy wheel as "spacesaver" was D.O.T illegal!

In Australia the bigger wheels were an expensive $$$$ option....

Hi Mike, thanks for that. Is that your car? I found that very picture of that same wheel last week whilst searching, small world eh! My order form and delivery notice does not show that as an extra, when my car was ordered in May 1976.

Am I thinking this correctly, that 6 1/2 x 14 was standard when my car was built in 1976, and that later the 7 1/2 x 14 became an optional extra?

Also that either fit, and as you point out the 7 1/2 makes a better fit?

As far as I know Rick the wider 14 x 7½ was an option from the beginning, my car was ordered December 1975 and delivered June 76.

Keep the 16" wheels, the car is much happier driving on them. Use the 14" Campys for show
