Hi everyone, I am since over a year the proud owner of a great carbureted 308GTB from 1976 equipped with a valve controlled Capristo stainless exhaust. Whilst the actual sound of the exhaust is great, there has always been an annoying whistling noise under the tone of the engine, especially at low rpm and idle and it has always bothered me. The car has recently undergone major works in which all valves, seats etc were changed and the ignition switched to a single electronic one. My mechanic had noticed a small gap in one of the intake valves and we thought that this might have been the reason of this whistling sound but this has now been fixed and the whistling noise remains... I had read on some threads that putting some rolled steel inside the exhaust would help but this problem seemed to be with the standard stock exhaust. Whilst the exhaust from capristo is stainless steel, the manifolds are still the original ones, perhaps this difference in metals could create this sound...? I am hoping someone can help me figure this one out! Please check the video for the sound.
Hi Mike, I did not check them in detail myself but I believe my mechanic must have checked them out when he changed the belts. Is there a way to check them without necessarily having to remove them and the belt in the process? As I have just had the belt changed 3 months ago, would be a shame to have to do all of this all over again, especially with what most mechanics charge for this procedure...
