Fair enough if it’s a minter / collector .After all Gandini passed away earlier and like any other great “ artist “ there work tends to appreciate post mortem.
Leta face it his CV in car design was arguably the most impressive ever - period .Thinking Muria , Stratos , GT 4 , Countach shark nose BMW creator etc etc .

It’s also with Ferrari appreciation a numbers game , how many survivors. They only manufactured only 842- GT 4 208s as opposed to near 3000 308s GT 4 s . Hard to say exactly how many 208 s are left ? A few hundred? Rarity helps values .As close to OEM spec and details as well !

Nobodies interested in classic car performance as your grandmas cooking new VW golf / rabbit can outblast these today at the lights .It’s all about beauty and provenance with a sprinkling of feel good factor when driving it .

GT 4 are also even number s with the chassis……as they initially conceived for Le Mans and other “GT “ race series …….another often overlooked detail in Ferrari history . Yep race built cars sold enough for road use initially , but plans changed back in Marenello.

The Le Mans homologation number back in the day when Enzo was conceiving “GT “ 4 s for the GT class was 500 .
At the first outing ( either 73 or 74 ?) the French at the 11 th hour disputed the sold numbers as a lot of cars although shipped out of Marenello were standing at dealers , particularly in N America .
The car was re classified as a prototype s and made to run ( out of its depth now ) with bigger Porsches etc .

This was the Friday night before the Sat start .All week it was whipping it’s class French Matra s in practice .
    Enzo was furious.

Around the same time on the F1 side a chap called Nikki Lauda turned up ……the rest as they say is history.

I think the following yr Cincinnati motors ( States ) ran a privateer team at Le Man s as Enzo blazing row with the French previously lead to a irrecoverable breakdown. By that time they met the homologation number . Gearbox failures of the alleged 300 Hp motors lead to a dismal set of results .
They never did any more Le Mans with the GT 4 . Enzo focused all efforts on F1 with Lauda and the 312b .

Mean while after a luke warm reception sales continued with the road versions of the GT 4 . Still kept the race car even chassis numbers .Even to this day they are the only road car Ferrari produced with even numbers .Often overlooked FWIW ?

The 208 as stated in the ad ^ was for Italian tax mitigation, as cars over 2000 cc attracted an additional 37 % of tax .
They lowered the final drive and gearing’s to somewhat make up for the hp as well .
