http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130334211815 The car has a high asking price... $1.25 The seller seems to be a real car guy from info on his website: The question has been asked as to whether or not I have the original factory VIN plate of my Porsche 934. The answer is no. I believe Customs has the 930 670 0175 VIN plate. When the car was owned by Gary Belcher it crashed at Daytona in the 1978 Paul Revere Race. It was then front clipped with a partial Clip from a1976, 911S. The numbers in the new partial front clip were not removed but thickly Painted over. In 2001 the 934/5 came up from South America to be gone through by Phil Bagley's PORSCHE RESTORATION shop, KLUBSPORT. It was then that someone in customs scraped the paint in the front of the car, next to the fuel cell, where one set of factory VIN numbers are located. That VIN number was recorded along with the original VIN on the Vin Plate located inside the car. The car was shipped to Phil Bagleys shop as the 930 670 0175. Then, 2 Days later, Customs called Phil at KlubSPORT and asked them to return the car to customs. At Customs Demand " The car must be returned today or fines will be issued. The car was shipped that day. When the car was rushed onto the trailer to ship it immediately back to customs the nose wouldn't fit back on the car once loaded on the carrying trailer so it was hung on the wall waiting for the car to return! It never DID! Thats how the nose ended up at Klubsport. The insurance company that payed off on the 1976 911S and took possession of the car. I'm sure no one from the insurance company even looked at it! 1976 911S not running! It was auctioned off in a Federal Auction. I found the car 6 months later sitting outside under a canopy full of holes. A used car dealer bought it at auction. All other numbers were removed by CUSTOMS AND FEDS leaving just the number from the 1976 911S in the trunk. Meaning if you wanted you could register this car for the STREET
Its amazing what a person can find at a flea market. I went down to the Swapshop Flea Market in Ft Lauderdale where I ran into a guy I kew. He mentioned, knowing I was a Porsche technician, that this used car dealer he knew had bought a Porsche he had never seen before. I asked if it had a big wing and a rollcage. He said I think it does. I said Id like to see that! He picked up his cell phone and proceeded to call the guy. He handed me the phone and I talked to him for a few minutes. I immediately drove down to see it, thinking on the way its most likely a kit car. There it was, sitting outside, under a very small canopy, a 935 body! There was no nose piece on the car. The car was covered in dust and dirt as it had been sitting outside for 5 6 months. Looking into the engine compartment and seeing the flat fan racing engine I knew I was on to something special! I did not have an extra $100 in the bank. I found the money!! I got down on my knees and begged my parents, who were in their mid 80s, for the money. The next day by noon I had it and loaded it onto my trailer. It is still hard to believe!! Getting it home I took Pictures of it. Thinking it could be one of the Whittingtons YELLOW 935s. I went to Danny Stahl's Shop, who I had worked a couple of years for as a technician. Danny worked building engines for the Whittington Brothers on their 935 Porsches in the mid 1970s. I asked Danny if it was one of the Whittington 935 Race cars. He knew where they were! Danny said Phil Bagley of KLUB SPORT, Might know about the car. Phil wasn't there, but his Partner knew about this car. He said , the car was there for 2 days. and that it was a REAL 934 with 935 k3 body work. I was very happy to hear that! I called Phil Bagley the next Day. Asked if he remembered me that I worked for Svend. He, said, Yes, . I told him I was the new owner of the 934/935 whatever it is.Phil told me more info on the car. I asked PHIL, if He Knew? Anything about, the NOSE to the car? Phil said, "Yes!!!" I'm LOOKING at it!!!! It's hanging on the wall. I asked Phil, what we could work out on the nose hanging on his wall, to my car? Phil said, do you have something to pick it up with? Come get it!! Phil gave it to me! Phil had worked for Svend Ibsen when he first started working on cars.I'm sure Phil feels the same way about Svend. The man that INSPIRED and Taught Many of Todays Great Mechanics! It was an amazing change of events!!! I then spent almost two months trying to find out about the history of this car. I found John Starkey author of The Turbo Porsche 930 to 935 a highly respected appraiser of vintage automobiles. John spent many months researching the car trying to find out what this car was. John contacted many people in the racing community going from one elad to another discovering that this is THE 930 670 0175 car!!!This VIN number is the true history of this car. Thank you Svend! Thank you God! Thank you Phil! Thank you John Starkey! Two years ago I suffered a disabling head, neck and brain injury while working at Champion Motors Porsche as a Porsche technician. I have not been able to work for the last two years. The future does not seem to promising. I had intended on going through this car but I can no longer work. The pain is too much
The car is worth half +/- of the asking price IMHO. Not knocking the car, just his asking price relative to the market.
I agree on the price being exorbitant but the guys who owns it really does seem to be someone who loves cars. No idea why he has the car at such a high price.
That is 917K money.....And even at $1.2M you can buy a restored 934 and for 700k, you can get a 2.8 RSR which is much more event friendly than this. Plus, the history seems to be far from confirmed.
You are 100% right about the price being way off. Frankly, I don't think the 'seller' really cares if the car sells at all. Not sure why he even listed it for sale other than to let people know about the car. Maybe the wife said 'put that damn yellow Porsche on Ebay'!! I would not focus on the price on this one. Just enjoy that a fellow car fanatic has a great story about an awsome find!!
The guy seems to have "stole" the car, got some rare parts free, and now wants over double market. Pretty good ROI..
Canepa in California has a 934-1/2 with huge race history for $600s. He also shows two RSRs and a 935 in inventory. http://www.canepa.com/inventory/racecar_1/934_5_white/index.html
Buy it now price is 2.5 million Perhaps he doesn't want to sell it on ebay, rather get the message out there that the car is for sale. What a wild machine
This isn't just a beat-up car. It's definitely a car with history... Factory built racer, with famous owners and drivers, in famous races. That could account for much of the restoration worth of this car...kinda like an autographed ripped dirty game-worn jersey that you wouldn't wash. As for just how much it's worth, who knows. It's smart to throw out a high price and start from there.
And there are plenty of similar cars with "historical pedigree" for half the price. He's really OTL. Everyone posting here knows what it is worth.
I have had a half a dozen emails with the seller. He really is a nice guy. I know his price is not realistic but deep down he really doesn't want to sell the car. If someone was really interested and gave him a call for the right (not stupid) price they might just own the car. I think he would like to see someone whi really appreciates this car restore it and get it back on the track..... just my $.02
