I came across an older gentlemen today selling his rolls royce shadow for a very low price. The car looks beautiful, huge front grill, decent paint (a few scratches) 99k miles, TV in back seat, good condition interior, runs well.

I am not in desperate need of another car but it wont really dent my wallet toooo much to pick this up. I dont know anything about these cars though so could someone with some knowledge fill me in? All I saw was a beautiful older rolls royce, and I feel it might be a good deal for a car to take out to resturants and clubs on weekends.

First of all, this should be in the Other Cars forum.

I've never owned a Shadow, but I've talked to friends of mine who work on them. By "very low price," I hope you mean under $10k, because the best one is maybe worth $15k.

And, you can figure on spending that much again in maintenance over the next couple of years.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. It was for $10k btw. Why would they be so cheap? The car still looks really good.

Purchase price may seem cheap but keeping it running will change that perception very quickly.

    Price of Purchase= $10000
Keeping it on the road= priceless

Well he has had it for 15 years. Oh well, I will just keep up my savings for a Noble ;)

Thanks for the input! I searched on ebay as well and saw how cheap they go for... I was suprised, the car still looks like $1m

The purchase price is the same as your annual running cost.

I sevice 2 places that restore RRs in northeastern Ohio and they have both told me the same thing when I asked about a similar deal. Nothing is cheap on a RR, the parts alone will eat you alive. In 15 years the old guy has probably spent $100k maintaining it and if he hasn't then you don't want any part of it.

I own a 1984 Silver Spur in my inventory and have operated it (on and off weather permitting....don't want a rock in the $2,500 windshield you know) for one year now.......anything that you "must" (as in you have no f*ck**g choice) buy from a RR dealer is incredibly expensive......but there are many things now that you can buy from the aftermarket or specialty RR parts suppliers that are 25% of the cost of dealers parts.

    It's really a calculated risk.......but gawd......what a riot to drive around in.
