Hi, Took 22115 out today for a short drive. Loud ticking noise from passenger side rear wheel area. Seems to disappear when cruising, more obvious when under load, accelerating or cornering. I pulled the wheel off thinking it was related to parking brake. That seems to be functioning fine. There's plastic disc in the Koni shock. Thought it could be the root cause, but driver's side had one too in same condition. Has anyone had similar issue? Ideas what to check next? Thank you,
Ticking noise or vibrating noise? I had an issue where the AC lines were touching the rear passenger side fender causing an obnoxious noise.
Ticking, no vibration. Ticks with every wheel rotation. Could be related to parking brake...anyone with experience adjusting parking brake?
Did you recently rebalance your wheels? Could the weights be rubbing on something? I also had this problem in the past.
+ 1 - had the same problem when I replaced all 4 tires on my 308 - wheel weights on the right rear were causing the ticking. Tire shop rebalanced the tire.
Thoroughly inspected wheel, all seems ok. However, I will swap wheels and do a road test. Wheels are refinished (14") with new correct tyres in 2016. I did check parking brake cable, which has a lot of play...perhaps it's not fully releasing and binding to the brake ass'y. Thanks for your input,
I put my phone onto record and then place it securely near the suspect wheel. That will at least narrow it down to which wheel as the sound will be louder near the offending wheel. My first thought was CV joint. They are very strong (same as 911 turbo) but if the boot is shot or if gear oil leaks into the CV joint it may provoke some clicking.
Other symptoms... 308 rolls easily with brake off and in neutral. Once jacked up, the wheels won't move (reasonable force applied). This is true for both rear wheels. Brake pads should just slightly grace the disks. I'm thinking mine have too much force applied and need adjusting?
Do you hear it when not moving? If not it's most likely a rotational issue. +3 on the brakes/weights. If you rotated your tires or even if you did not the inside balance weights may contact brake calipers. Heat may make this happen intermittently as things expand. Mine was hitting just barely.
Thank everyone who wrote. I also got some great help from a couple of local guys-- they know who they are. Cause was wheel weight. After an adjustment and re-check of brake components...good to go.
