Engine bay looks like crap, the cavallino on the back should be more upright, it looks like curb rash on the one wheeel that he did take a pic of (and I'm sure that is the best one....14" wheels look ugly anyway), What about oil leaks? Bushings and shocks ever replaced? Radiator OK? A/C OK? Any rust? I will say the interior looks great. Way too many variables to bid on this thing w/o looking at it in person or at least talking to them on the phone at length.

PPI before you bid. Why is this so hard? Not to mention there are a dozen F-chat guys here in Houston with '77's that could at least have gone a looked over the car for you.

With the missing emission stuff, I'd say it's already fully-priced (assuming no other "gotchas").

What's up with the emergency brake handle? Don't recall that it angled towards the driver?

Buy mine with a ton of records and in awesome shape...see thread below:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44820

If you're really looking for a nice 308, buy the best you can, avoid the $23k car with no records, you'll end up with a $29k car with just a few and many headaches! I don't understand why someone would pay $23k for a car with no records and not $26k for a fully sorted, original and well kept car.

It's OK Bernardo, stick by your guns!

This car has been on the market here FOREVER, with bruises all over it from the "Ten Foot poles".......

Here's a news flash for all you guys that devalue for missing smog......they are ALL missing the smog unless they've been PARKED!!! LOL!

Anyone who actually USED the car trashed that stuff as soon as no one was watching......

I've got a huge box of it all, for you California guys...the rest of the world is screwing Historical license plates on these cars and rollin' on!

    I know, I know.........FCA Concours.........

'77s are a LITTLE stronger in the market 'cuz they are LEGAL NON CAT.

    That's all, Bernardo.........

The difference between "Fair" and "excellent" can swing more $$ than that.......

DO NOT BUY THAT CAR!!!!! it has a known history of bad compression and has been diagnosed as needing MAJOR engine work. see my old thread TEXAS GTB in the Texas section.

THE OWNER REFUSED TO ALLOW ANYONE TO INSPECT THE CAR AND WOULD NOT ALLOW A COMPRESSION TEST TO BE DONE.

he would not take less than $25,000 for it when i spoke with him on the phone. i did A LOT OF PM, email and phone research on this car. i would not touch it for anya mount without seeing it, driving it, and have a proper inspection done.

EDIT...... when i told him i work on business jets and we have a facility there, and i could fly out whenever, he got very "evasive" to my direct questions. i dont mind beater 308's, and i dont expect a perfect car, but there is something wrong with it and he knows it. the car had no service records, books or tools.

    you have been warned! :)

The cam timing was off reaper, I think they figured that out, and fixed it...

    Besides the auction ended already!!

SOMEBODY owns it.......LOL! Watch for a new thread:

"Hi, I'm a newbie and just found this site............" LOL!

Good try though, I thought I recognized it...note it was a new seller though, SW side of town, no longer North Side, as it was when you were looking......

i respect what you are saying. but to hell with buying a car for that much money when i was warned by 2 people privately not to buy it, and that it had high $$$ problems.

as i said, i dont mind beater 308's. i am on my second Ferrari already and looking for more. the point is for that kind of money for a 308 the car should have been in better shape, with records and a clean PPI. the guy that had it would not allow an inspection and he had those guys on the other side of town sell the car for him i spent a lot of time on the phone to the tune of a $230.00 cell phone bill investigating the several 308's i was looking at. i ended up with *20433* and i am looking to get a 308gt4 and a 356 / 400 series 5 speed car this year.

no big deal man, just trying to help. 308's are cheaper to chop up for parts than fix once the repairs exceed a certain point.

Alan and I talked about this car today. I'm not sure it's the one with the problems that was up north (unless Carreap can verify the SN is the same).

The one I inquired about up in North Houston two summers ago did not have the black vents, they were body color.

I just saw this thread, and surveyed the listing on Ebay...I think that was good advice to steer clear of the car. My impressions from the photos:

    1) Front vents should not be black, they should be body color.

    2) Wheel center emblems are fogged up...though may polish up

    3) Aftermarket shift knob

    4) Overspray in door jams.

    5) Not factory type carpet.

    6) Instrument facia is scratched up...how/why is this?

    7) Left heater vent control bent up, and surround broken off.

    8) Hand brake lever bent

    9) After market antenna switch

    10) Aftermarket spark plug wires

    11) What is up with the wing nuts on the air cleaner box

    12) More overspray in the engine compartment, and general dirt, rust and flakey, peeling paint (nasty!).

Overall, the car has that appearance of being kept in a very humid enviroment...note all the rust on the rivets of the emission plate, and note too that "frosty" look on the door latch plates.... Seats have likely been resprayed (not that this is bad in of itself) as they look too perfect for a 30k mile car. In fact the seat piping looks like it may be vinyl replacement, as it has a sort of shiny appearance, and not matching color to seats...

    Sean F and others.................

THIS IS THE SAME CAR IN MY "TEXAS GTB" thread in the Texas section. the car has amber / orange tape on the broken front turn signal lenses.

would any............ ANY of you pay that much for a car that the owner was too cheap to buy a set of used lenses? the car was not properly maintained, the car had NO RECORDS and was known in the Texas community as having issues with the engine involving the heads and/or compression. i would have paid around $10k to $15k cash for it, if it ran and was repairable PERIOD. THESE ARE NOT DAYTONA'S OR 250GTE'S.

the owner REFUSED TO ALLOW A PPI AFTER I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE CAR PICKED UP WITH A TOW TRUCK AND DRIVEN TO A SERVICE FACILITY AT MY EXPENSE. he wanted a idiot with Ferrari fever to buy it.

i got my Marrone 78gts for $9500, ( frame damage) with full discloser of the problems it had. the Fchatter that owned it was an absolute pleasure to deal with and was honest to a fault. this guy tried to "impress" me with his Jaguars, Rolls and other cars ect. also i was told that he was "leaving the country" when i was in the middle of trying to send money for the PPI and i offered to bank wire a deposit on good faith. then i started getting details about all the problems the car really had. i am going to dig through all the photos of the car, in a garage and you can see the dirt and dust as well as paint overspray from a RECENT repaint, another point that was not disclosed. was it painted for rust? damage? i dont know. i spoke with the mans son who had a toyota SUPRA, which is in some of the pics. i got a bad impression, that little voice nagging me in the back of my mind to run away.

the car was not worth the twenty something grand, the tape on the turn signal lenses is but a hint of all the crap that was NOT done properly on the car.
i posted all this stuff to try and help.

    . pics

also note the horse on the tail light panel is sideways. the car has been on ebay twice before this auction. the pics on the green grass are from the other time it was on ebay a few days after i gave up on getting a straight answer about the car, and its condition.

i dont expect a 20+ year old car, much less a Ferrari to not have "issues" it goes with the territory of old cars. but my opinon is this was not as advertised and not worth the price. glad i got *20433* instead . see profile pic, threads ect.

i want a v12, i am leaning towards acarb 512 Boxer and then an early Countach. i dont have the funds yet for an old Lambo. i dont keep my toy cars but for a few months. at one time i had 11 cars counting my daily driver, but they were "cheap" muscle cars. i would rather sample the personalities of many different cars, than be stuck with one. same philosophy keeps me single also i guess! :) i need something to put the fun back. i am bored.
