This Ferrari model, the first styled by Bertone, marks a historic moment in the evolution of the line of road-going production Ferraris. Besides the new designer, it was also the first to use a V-8 in a road car, the brand new and soon to be famous 3.0-liter quad-cam 90-degre V-8 motor breathing through four twin-choke Weber carburetors and delivering 240 HP. It was also the first mid-engine Ferrari 2+2.

Historians would add three more highlights: Enzo Ferrari himself took a major role in its design, and that its original prototype was track-tested by Niki Lauda in 1974. The next year, Lauda and Ferrari would win both the F1 driver and constructor’s F1 World Championship. The 308 GT4 was also the only 2+2 Ferrari ever raced with factory support.

In our particular car, you are looking at low mileage and superbly maintained example of a 1977 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4. Model year 1977 firmly established the series II car, which included some minor dashboard changes, a new style glove box and fuse box upgrade, along with some other incidental items. Most important, it was now badged as a Ferrari, not a Dino, though it retained the moniker.

This example is a 3-owner car, with the last being in a family’s ownership’s for 18 years since March 1998, shared between father and son.

As you can see by the photos, the car shows extremely well and has been exactingly looked after and cared for by its owners. The paint is in excellent overall condition and would rate it an 8-9. It was clearly repainted in the original color several years ago, but does not show any signs of age. In addition, there is absolutely no rust on the vehicle and all the body panels are straight.

The interior is all original except for a stereo and CD changer added by the previous owner. As an all original interior, it has a very nice patina and shows some wear on the driver lower seat and bolster. Everything works properly even the air-conditioning. The windows go up and down at a normal speed and even the old clock is keeping time.

Based on the service records that I have since March 1998, the car was well cared for and has been serviced and maintained during its ownership. In addition to its past ownership, it just came out of the dealer, Ferrari of Central Jersey, where it went through a full major mechanical and belt service along with some other items such as refinished wheels and new tires. I can supply the invoice listing all the items that were included during this major belt service, included a compression and leak down test, which had excellent results. All other records can be furnished upon request as well.

This example would be a benchmark car for a Ferrari enthusiast to add to their garage as an investment, or someone just looking for an extremely fun inexpensive Ferrari to enjoy. These cars are still obtainable but are increasing in value quickly.

The car is located in Northern New Jersey and is available to be seen or test driven at any time. If you have an interest, please call or e-mail:

Very nice looking example, although I'd characterize these leakdown results as marginally satisfactory, not excellent. GLWS.
