Very nice! Your car was immediately in front of mine on the production line (I have SN 20583). Looks to be in beautiful shape, GLWS!

I know the feeling. Will be interested to see what happens when the auction gets closer to the end. I think the real bidders will come out. Your car is a nice example.

would you mind sharing your assembly sequence and engine number before the sale? We could compare with chris1866 with his chassis 20583.
    thank you

Sure, be glad to. Engine # 02404. Unfamiliar with the assembly sequence. Where do I find this?

Very interesting, for once, the engines follow each other like the chassis because chris1866 has your engine number + 1.

The assembly number is deep stamped on the top of the coils bracket, to the left of the engine bay. If we follow the logic, it should be 319A or very close to this number.

Very interesting. So you have SN 20581, engine number 02404, and assembly 321A. I have SN 20583, engine number 02405, and assembly 320A.
So do the assembly numbers count down instead of up? My SN and engine are one after yours, but assembly number one before (assuming 320 is before 321?). But it would make sense the other way around...(ie I expected to see assembly number 322A on mine if you have 321).
I always thought my car was one of the earliest US Steel cars. TripleBlack do you know how many Steel US cars there were before our serial numbers? I know BigTex had 2 really early ones also (earlier than ours).

I am very sorry Hoppio to hijack your thread with my message below, but as chris1866 asked the question, if I may, I would like to answer (the sequence thread is dying...)

As you may know, chris1866, US vetroresina were made in batches. There are 3 batches of car (approx 20 + 40 + 40).
When factory started making the steel car for US, they continue doing it by batch at the beginning.

Your cars (chris1866 & Hoppio) were made in the 3rd batch of steel car. Here are the chassis numbers (Attention, this is my research, not factory data):

1st from chassis 20171 (market unknown so it may be) or 20173 (US market for sure) to 20235 -> 32 cars (may be up to 33 cars)
2nd from 20383 (market unknown so may be) or 20391 (US market for sure) to 20447 (US market for sure) or 20449 (market unknown so may be) -> 29 cars (may be up to 34 cars)
    3rd from 20573 to 20631 -> 28 cars

After these 3 sequences, the factory did very small series at the same time as Euro vetroresina, so it can be considered that they are no longer batch.

Concerning the assembly sequence number, it is a little bit more complicate that is why I am always asking this number to have the most data.
Don't be afraid of the reverse counting from your car with Hoppio's because assembly numbers were not necessarily taken in order. Chassis were delivered at the factory by Scaglietti with already the sequence number (that is to say a chassis with all these adjustable openings) but the number were not assigned in the order.

Since I've been interested in the subject, I've collected the following data (in order of the chassis numbers). All people who are interested in this topic are welcome to exchange:

1st batch: I have just 2 numbers, the 79 and the 180. The 79 is one chassis of the vetroresina sequence, but may be used at the end (without the resina body of course, but with steel) by Scaglietti.
2d batch: I have 189, 187, 241 & 250 which mean this is not possible to have so high numbers unless think that those chassis were already made and were waiting to enter the production line.
    3rd batch: I have 321,320, 353, 288

    Then I have the missing number on the list of those batches, but far later: 96, 136, 44, 166, 194, 204, 205, 213, 219, 277, 221, 242, 246, 271, 257, 304, 308, 311, 329, 332...
After second quarter of 1977, the numbers started to be higher than the one from the 3rd batch.

So it is hard to say this is logical, but at the end, I think every frame which had been made had been used finally. (the hypothesis of a reset on the MY or the calendar year does work either...)

To conclude, at least you have sister cars (closed chassis-engine-assembly), they shouldn't be far from each other on the line...
