The promo video for the Formula E e-Race Las Vegas was posted on Formula E's website today. Pretty cool. JEV had some fun :). Here is the Youtube video:

The Fiat turned out looking good too, all you had were wheels and tires when I was there a few months ago!

Work related to the 1 year/5k mile shakedown and re-power (batteries only) is moving well. The G50 came out and is in excellent condition and was simply cleaned and readied for reinstallation. New frictions surfaces were put onto both the custom lightened Aasco aluminum flywheel and the Spec pressure plate. New ceramic clutch as well. Pulled the motor coupler to attach to PP/Flywheel so we can balance the clutch assembly. Thanks HPEVS!

The original 28.5 kWhr pack is going off for a solar storage project where it will have years of good use. A lot of people looking for homemade "power walls" and it is nice to offset the new pack cost! Kinda of cool to see a new life cycle. Even more excited as the new battery boxes are coming. The new pack will be 46.66 kWhr and weighs +70 lbs over the prior pack. Major improvement in density and power output since v1. New pack cont rating 1600 amps w peak at 4900 amps. There will be ZERO stress on the pack ensuring a long life under maximum use/performance conditions. Cool to have new power options. Battery prices dropping fast and power/density is really making progress. Makes for more cool e-opportunities... Like a Jeep FC150???

Aiming for 3rd party performance tests on the GTE in spring of 2017.... On a separate note.... an exciting filming event is occurring in April and we will be ready!

Thought it worthing sharing some pics and details seeing as the 308 and 124 were family back in 1980. The 100% Electric 1980 124 Spider had its first day on the road yesterday.... oh man oh man does it fly.. smooth, jaw dropping for a 37 year old car...

    Gas/Electric quick look:

    64kw/96kw
    82hp/130hp
    99/200 ft/lbs
    0-60 mph: 12.2/ ??
    0-100mph 73.6/ ??
    2291/2511 lbs (curb)

Mike, Thanks for the call about the LA activities coming up... Think I can make it and look forward to seeing folks from the last event!

I am dialing in the new battery pack starting Monday.... New battery boxes are done, we have secured a development pack that fits like a glove and has massive output that will accommodate the triple motor package without causing battery stress. Will add 75lbs to the project while increasing from 28 kWhr to 47 kWhr. Technology progress!

Will post 308 updates starting next week.

And the 124 Spider project update.... Upped the power to 1400 amps at 125v.... & Snapped the left axle and spider gear. Woops. Note to self: Don't drop the clutch :) with meaty tires and the weight on the rear axle.

We re-water jetted a new motor mount to lower motor at front mount point about 1" to align driveline and ditch the little 20 mph resonance vibration. Super smooth now from 0-110 mph. Very solid nature of the car reveals no noises, rattles, etc. A couple punch list items and we should be done by mid next week! Not sure it is ever done but there is nothing left to punch.. until'?? hmmmm. Fun time. Updated specs:

Details: (OEM vs EV Conversion Specs)

    82hp/176hp
    99/205 ft/lbs torque
    0-60 mph: 12.2/6.7 seconds
    0-100mph 73.6/really quick
    2291/2511 lbs (curb)
Battery: 36 kWhr Tesla Smart Modules
130 mpc range (17 Miles per hour charge rate)

Hutch thanks a lot for your updates with hard data; very interesting, also in the light of the ongoing test vs real fuel/electricity consumption figures in the car industry.
One question: Does your curb weight include the driver? If so, what weight did you assume?
    Thanks!

Worthy Question.... The weight is without people or "baggage". It seems to be the best comparison of these projects vs their predecessors. Corner balance and total curb influence design and implementation of each project..... Doubled checked to make sure I was correct:).

Wikipedia for what it is worth: "Curb weight (US English) or kerb weight (UK English) is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables such as motor oil, transmission oil, coolant, air conditioning refrigerant, and a full tank of fuel, while not loaded with either passengers or cargo".

So I am watching for a good donor Jeep FC 150 for the next project..... Not ready yet but one needs a cool utility daily!

Seeing as the black wheel set is from 2 360's, two of which had fire damage to the finish, something had to be done. More fire related than style. I will happily accept donation of wheels if you are offering:) It would look great with 16" period similar wheels.

See.... Just like gals getting a new hair style.... Changes with the season.

Thanks Hutch. The reason I asked is the difference in definition between the US and the EU:

    US Curb Weight:
Weight of car with fluids and fuel at 100% as well as weight of any option expected to be in more than 33% of vehicles sold.

    DIN/ISO Kerb Weight:
Weight of vehicle including 90% of fuel, driver, tool kit, warning triangle and spare tire.

The driver is assumed to be 75kg.

Revisiting the project is having some fantastic results.. Many progressive engineering technology and design ideas are being incorporated into the update with admirable results. Ingenuity is down to the narrowest of margins but so far.... perfect. Box placement & design, battery stacking order and wiring, re-alignment of cel's within batteries to match voltage requirements, and then the timing for our deadline.....

A few photos of the work in progress: Motor and boxes installed... Driveline/ transaxle, trunk reinstalled, battery buss bars, prelim wiring, box hold downs, controller cooling system...

    Stay tuned.

A marathon rally to get the new battery bank installed along with other adjustments has yielded some nice results all around.

Three new lighter weight, structurally modified battery boxes fit back in with the tightest of tolerances. Getting our pack hard wired and configured to work within our voltage range showed serious ingenuity. Custom designed buss bars required and we included additional pack safety fusing. No there is almost twice the power capacity with only a modest 75 lb weight increase in the mid bay. The new pack output peaks at 5250 amps with a cont rating of 1600 amps.... and the car peaks @1500 amps.. note: Extremely low battery stress = long life and maximum drive power. (The former battery is now a residential off-grid power supply combined with solar/wind up in Oregon.... Great use for former auto batteries).

The two on-board chargers where reinstalled: 2500w x 2 capacity for 110v or 220v charging. Also designed an expansion charging capability that could be easily added. It would double the charge rate to 10 kWhr. More than I need but nice to know.

Will follow up soon with more details on the 308's performance after leaving the shop! ....

Here are some shots detailing the wrap up on v2.0:

Dropped a camera and mic into the motor bay for a quick casual drive. The triple motors reach @ 8,000 rev limit well courtesy of some serious power delivery from the new pack. It is all about the audio here running 1 to 3 on the gear box and moving it around a bit. A track recording would be really interesting.

Awesome! Still love the fact that you kept a [manual] transmission, even if it isn't the cute little box that came with the car ;-)
