    Mark-

There are a couple great options for VW EV conversions:

    (1) Zelectricmotors: Here is a link to a guy that EV West supports for full restomods and sales of VW's. ZELECTRIC MOTORS

David just went live recently with sales and his 1st 2 available cars vaporized. I think they were about $45k - Restored, converted and ready to roll out in totally new fashion.... minus a lot of future VW maintenance... Check out some of David's videos on the site or via youtube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlqNwpMWiIA&spfreload=10

    (2) EVWest.com has kits that are supposed to be fairly easy for a basic gear head to install. Many classic VW Models area already designed and ready to ship in various packages -power/range.... The kits here:

EV West - High Performance Electric Vehicle Parts ... see the Kits tab on top bar.

Makes for a classic, reliable and quick day driver. Apparently I will be put to the test and tasked with making a full Beetle conversion with a kit. I have never done it but will be doing it to test (and hopefully prove) that and average guy can perform the conversion. We have it on the schedule and plan to air it on The EV Show in a couple of months.

Feel free to reach out to me and I can put you in touch with Mike if interested... feel free to visit the shop.

    Have a great weekend.

    Eric

This video recap of the EV West M36 race win at Laguna Seca is solid. The 308 is going to come out with hugh torque numbers slightly below the M36. It would be appropriate to take the 308 to LS for inaugural track time seeing as the first race ever run at Laguna was won by a Ferrari!

After extensive wire brushing the frame we I painted all interior metal/frame flat red to ID the "already covered" areas. Final black is coming soon, after primary fab work. The front end had a little prior crunch damage and subsequent bad repair. We cut out (with saw-all's and flip flops) the crunch area and SRD has re-fabricated the front frame to accommodate the battery box and restore the frame strength. We cut the side frame steel with a plasma cutter/ SolidWorks to create a light weight and exceptionally strong structure. The holes were cut on the plasma cutter and then punched with dimples to make a thin piece of steel function with the specs of 1/3"+ of steel. It is paper thin and very low weight. Racing tech.

Having thoughts of turning a roller into a full out EV race car...... :)

The G50 is upside down and backwards mounted on the trial end...... note the Patrick Motorsport Cable bracket fitted. Had to extend the nose bolts, shave down a small nose section to accommodate the shifter cable bracket crossover bar. I see the new mounts on the inside for the Euro bumper fitting... more photos soon as I get to SRD today.

The battery boxes are all fitted as well.... Should be about ready to bring back to EV West for the next round of projects.... Fitting 3 AC-51's, electrical system overhaul, chassis painting...... and the list is long!

    (1) PSM shifter cable bracket on but still to be modified (extended for our "custom" short-nose).
    (2) Better resolution pictures of the G50 mounting bracket.
    (3) Front Battery Box fitted nicely.
    (4) Rear Euro Bumper Bracket just welded up... not painted but a clean fit into the US bumper shock mount. Easy in and out using existing frame bolts from inside trunk.
(4.5) Front bracket done later today... stay tuned.
    (5) Rear Crossmember re-built to accommodate motor and transaxle alignment.

The custom made short nose required that we re-fabricate the PMS cable bracket. Note the extension ad on. Extended from original picture to the second photo. Perfect alignment now so we can measure and order the cables. Also ordered the custom hydraulic clutch and brake pedals, masters and reservoirs (similar construction to photo attached from a Baja truck.... but obviously will be top mounted w remote reservoirs). Clutch will be operating the Tilton clutch push release clutch bearing since we have the G50 in backwards and upside-down. Brakes will be manual with 8:1 ratio. Brakes will be adjustable front to rear. Pedals should be mounted and we should have this back next week to start building forward through the transaxle into the motors.

    Eric;

I noticed you're making many custom brackets and mounts, and that they look AWESOME! Very professional work, congrats, BTW!

Do you have a CNC cutting table at the shop? Or are you using an outside provider for these? I'm involved in a project that'll require some CNC cut parts (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/359739-chassis-37313-resurrection-308-gtbi.html), and I still don't have a source for these...

Keep up the good work! It's turning out amazing! Love this thread!!

Moving along at a steady clip now:
    1. Euro bumpers mounted with new custom brackets (available if anyone needs - PM me)
    2. 3 Battery Boxed designed, fab'd and installed
    3. CNC off road aluminum racing pedals, master cylinders, and hydraulic clutch installed. 3 remote reservoirs tucked above via a custom fab bracket fitting the OEM mounting holes...master cylinders. Really consise install. Space saver. Eliminates transfers OEM brake pedal box, brake booster, and need for electric vacuum pump in conversion. Really frees p substantial space and reduced total weight as well.
    4. "Smart Car" electronic Accelerator pedal mounted, installed.
    5. G50 Hanger fabricated and installed.
    6. PMS cable shifter bracket installed (after modification)
    7. Grill modified to fit Euro front Bumper . DRLs fitted int metal extensions.

I saw this project in person last week, and all I can say is WOW! This project is going to be awesome. The attention to detail is unreal. Fabrication work on the brackets and other details is phenomenal. The torque that is going to come from three electric motors will absolutely blow the doors off of any other 3x8 out there. I'm looking forward to future updates on this. Great work Eric.

This is AWESOME. I love carbs and petrol engines, but you have to admire someone who can put this level of creativity to work. What an amazing project. Respect with a capital "R". :)

I had the pleasure of visiting Eric at the EV West shop this afternoon; I have to say the pictures do not do it justice. Engineering is first rate on all their builds and the 308 is going to be a sweet ride when it's done. I highly recommend checking out their videos if you haven't already; impressive and entertaining. Here is my crappy camera phone picture to add to the mix, I'll have to remember the DSLR next time. My Euro QV is out front and you can just see Eric's 308 EV peeking out from behind the bus.

Looks like this is going to go. Faro arm to design new aluminum cluster and I am looking at a few options for a set of gauges to fill the 7 spots for the EV project. Too many items that need upgrading so figured best to pull the entire cluster, redesign, and set new gauges in cluster a(including 2 side gauges).

Will aim to make something special here. Into the wiring... more to post shortly.

Look closely at this for a while and settled into liking the Truck-Lite LED 2727OC headlights to replace the Halogens. Great optics and considering our mods they will be a nice compliment. They are not as light weight as replaced lights but they feel great, solid, and bullet proof. Drop in required a little extra movement of headlight cover assemble to fit over the additional 1/2" or on the lens protrusion but no problem. 3 prong was a direct connect. 5 minutes to install. About $340 for pair.

    Their points:

**Military grade, die-cast aluminum housing and non-yellowing, polycarbonate lens offer optimum protection against damage from impact, roadside debris and other hazards
***Electronics are sealed in epoxy to resist from damage caused by corrosion or moisture
****Advanced circuitry protects against voltage spikes up to 600v
    *****Drop-in replacement for #6014, 6015, 6016, H6024 and Par 56 headlamp designs
Uses standard, H4, 3-blade wiring connector

Since we have a 3'x5' wiring diagram on the wall and the 308 is back from SRD, it is time to moving. James is in from Australia helping out for 2 months and man what a great guy! He has a Nissan Skyline under conversion with 2 WARP 11's..... basic translation: stupid horsepower! seriously.

Tracing every wire down in the 308 to remove every and any last unnecessary wire, relay, contact etc. New fuse and contact blocks are in order.. have yet to look them up here but feel free to toss an idea or two out..... Wires are in good shape under the old sheaths. Some classic 80's additions hiding in the wires... fuel pump secret kill switch, auto-paging theft device, a few questionable wire jumps...:). What a story inside.

The bottom photo is above the driver knee area under dash... That a down light??? Have yet to check wires but thats my guess... bet someone knows that right off the bat??

Now we have the 308 back there will be more posts w progress. Busy week kept me from getting a few of these up.. There are a couple new ones posted not he bottom of page 6 too if you have any interest.

More tomorrow on the complete exterior LED bulbs for all the lights (other than the Truck-Lite's. Found some solid bulbs, low prices, and they fit well.

And Great to meet you Seth.. Thanks for stopping but with you 85 QV Euro... Thomas Magnum thinks thats #4 on his registry for US Euro's..... Fun putting it up on the scales. That will be a nice point of comparison.....
