Hello this is my first post!!!! I have a 1978 308 GTS and my fuel pump is not pumping it will turn on amd make a sound but not pump... What is the best option for a replacement?... T.Rutlands has a facet for $214.69 but its not oem Rock auto has a universal for around $50... Racer wholesale has a facet pump for $84.95 which is what i would think you would pay for a non oem pump not $214.69 but i do not know the correct specifications for my 1978 308 gts carb car... thanks so very much for your help... have a great day...
Personally, I'd investigate going with the Pierburg (a quiet rotary) vs the Facet (noisy) even though the Pierburg might require more plumbing/mounting work. Do a search on "Pierburg Facet" to get threads on the subject. If yours is a US version, you might also check to see if the pressure regulator valve has failed (or a line is kinked) and the pump is actually OK.
I took off the line at the pump and it spit at me a little and that was all so i took off the fill line and gas comes out fine.... and idea the fuel pump specifications for a US carb car?...
The 308 carb fuel pump "specs" are given on page C13 of the 308GT4 Workshop Manual -- you can download a .pdf copy here: http://ferrari.cdyn.com/ But you'll find that most pumps (greatly) exceed the spec rather than being not enough. Do the search on "Pierburg Facet" (or just "Pierburg" or "Facet") -- lots of good prior discussion about these issues.
I replaced the OEM pump on my '78 with a pierburg when my pump started making intermittent screeching noises. I got it from http://www.allzim.com/acatalog/12v_Low_Pressure_Electric_Fuel_Pump__Pierburg.html . It's about the same noise level as OEM and seems to work ok for this application. It mounts in exactly the same location (same holes even) as OEM, but the plumbing is a little different. OEM has inlet and outlet at the same end of the pump whereas the Pierburg is in one side and out the other. http://f308.blogspot.com/2009/10/new-fuel-pump-and-now-i-know-why-my.html My only concern is that Zim's has the Pierburg listed as 5.5psi, which may be a touch high. I've read anywhere from 4-6psi for carbs, but I'm not sure. I think the Porsche carb guys run these as-is w/o a pressure regulator though. So far, I have not been able to find "official" specs on this pump (pressure and delivery volume).
I replaced my '78 pump with a Facet from the local Kragens. My old pump lasted 105k miles (shaft on the pump worn down). The facet works fine but is louder than OEM with the typical thump - thump sound. Don't hear it when driving though. It was around $60.
