1978 Ferrari 308 GTS (well sorted daily driver) USA carburetor model Red/Tan car is in Massachusetts 43,000 miles $72,500 This car was built in September 1978 and sold in San Francisco. It had two California owners and was repainted from grey to red during that time. It then sat unused for approximately 10 years and was purchased by Forza Motorsports of Gaylord, Connecticut in 2010. I purchased it in December 2010 with 22,000 miles. It has the original 14” Chromodora wheels with high performance, Vredestein Classic Sprint tires, (205/70/14 VR). These are equivalent to the original Michelin tires. Suspension is stock Koni shocks and standard springs. Sway bar bushings, end link bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints and all inside, control arm bushings and rear, outside bushings have been replaced. I took the car off the road and over the next three years I rebuilt, replaced, refurbished or restored all the major systems. I also enlisted a very talented group of craftsman and rebuilders. The systems included suspension, brakes, exhaust system, heat, air conditioning, cooling, steering rack, accelerator pedal, shifter and chassis detailing. In addition, all cooling, heating and fuel hoses were replaced. The four, front to back hoses for brake vacuum, heat, and air conditioning were also replaced. AC blows cold with R12 refrigerant. The engine was pulled and sent to David Feinburg, a Ferrari specialist, for a complete rebuild with custom 10.5:1 pistons and stainless steel valves. The transmission was inspected and was fine and the differential bearings were replaced. The clutch was relined with a Kevlar lining. The Weber carburetors were disassembled, cleaned, re-jetted, adjusted and rebuilt with genuine Weber gaskets and rubber components. Many of the emission components were not serviceable and were removed, a custom exhaust with dual, Magnaflow mufflers in series and oxygen sensor bungs was custom built. The headers were ceramic coated and an electronic ignition system, XDI, was installed in place of the dual distributors. Over the years all the “typical weak points” of a 308 were addressed: window motors (new grease and relays), steering column stalks repaired, headlight relays added, shift shaft seals, new silent blocks in shifter linkage, Birdman fusebox, new zipper for the rear storage compartment and two new foam seals on front bonnet to seal against radiator and storage area. The interior was completely stripped and Dnyamat installed on the floors, front and rear firewall and doors. In 2019 a new leather interior by TopsOnLine was installed (seats, headrests with embossed Cavalino and door cards). The car was repainted from grey to red prior to my purchase. I had the rear of the car (doors, fenders, roof, rear bonnet and taillight area) painted due an exhaust/ignition malfunction which led to excessive heat on the passenger rear exhaust. This caused damage to the rear bumper and two taillights. The damage was repaired with four new taillights, new bumper and new paint. In addition, the front headlight pods, louvers behind the headlights and front bonnet were also painted. Recent work included new transmission fluid, (Redline MTL), Baldwin oil filter and Valvoline VR-1 20-50 oil, new fuel filter and NGK Iridium spark plugs. A DynoJet dyno session was recently completed to check and fine tune fuel flow and pressure, air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and jetting (each jet was remove and checked with a Weber drill to check clearance and equalize all jets). The final results were 195 horsepower and 175 foot pounds of torque at the wheel. The car pulls strong all the way to redline with no skips or hesitation. Car comes complete with jack, manual and case, complete tool roll, targa top cover, emergency light with case and round bulb case, One original set of keys and two duplicate sets of keys including map pocket keys. My goal was to have a dependable, daily driver where everything works and is enjoyable to drive. I am now ready to pass it on for a new enthusiast to enjoy due to a new sports car coming to the garage. PM with your email address for a 5 page maintenance and repair list and additional photos. You will be pleased. I know Joe and the car. Will not disappoint! Also, as Joe listed, mechanical work by David Feinberg. David is now in Sarasota, Sarasota Italian Garage. Good man, knows the car well.
