Don't actually smoke so just wondering how this works, it doesn't seem to pull out. I want to plug my sat nav in.

If it's the same as my 1979 car then you don't: you apparently stick the *** in the little hole instead...

So unfortunately it's not compatible with the 12v chargers for satnav etc.

Don't know how feasible it is to swap the original for the more common type: I vaguely recall people talking about fitting a 12v accessory socket too

Get one of the DIN plugs for the emergency light socket plus a 12v lighter type socket off Ebay, wire them together and there you go - this has been more fully described here a couple of years ago if you need more detail I think

I replaced mine with a normal cigarette lighter. Not too hard to do. Not concourse, but I don't care.

I made up a small bracket and added a US style lighter socket under the dash for GPS etc. I left the 'actually very useful if you still smoke' Euro lighter in place.

You can buy an adapter to fit the cig lighter to allow you to use a regular plug. I think they are from BMW motorcycles. Someone will likely be here shortly to post a link!?

    That would be me! ;)

BUT, the adapter is for the emergency light plug under the dash, NOT for the cig lighter. The only solution for the cigarette lighter is to simply replace it...which is what the previous owner on my 308GTS did.

Here is the adapter for the E light plug:

+1, that is the simplest solution, and easily reversible in the future. The problem with using the adapter through the emergency light plug, is it is under the dash, to the driver's left, and you will have the cord running all around in a big giant mess. I suppose if this is used for a Nav unit, and you want it on the left side of you (I am talking about a left hand drive car, btw) then it might all work out.

But for most other accessories, having the plug on the console usually works as a more convenient option.
