I have been told that there are some replacement leather seat covers done for 308's. Anyone have any experience with them. May be cheaper to have my interior guy use these instead of building from scratch.
The two places everyone suggests are gahh and world upholstery. You can find them with a google search. They have ready made correct kits available. Let us know how it works out - I may want to do my '78 as well.
We also need to re trim seats and I see Superperformance do a set but TBH we were going to go to the trimmers for the same kind of cost
If you decide to give your upholsterer a try, you might call Douglass Interiors in Seattle a call; they'll be glad to send you some samples of their hides. If you do buy a hide, I'd go for the largest you can get. I redid the seats on my 328 using a 55 s.f hide. My cost was about $7.50 per s.f., or about $400. I've been using their hides for many years, now, on a variety of cars. No problem. BTW they're vat dyed, not surface dyed like some. Assuming the new hide no longer matches the remaining leather, what with fading, etc. many shoe repair companies can make up a batch of leather dye to match the new leather, which can be brushed or sprayed on the original leather. Of course black dye (available from World) works very, very well, and is easy to apply from the spray can it comes in. Their other colors don't seem to closely match much of anything, thus the custom mixed dye. Easiest way to clean the leather before respraying is to use lacquer thinner;works beautifully and is very inexpensive. 2 or 3 coats- thin ones- usually does the job very well. Best to remove the panels and anything attached to them,of course, and lay the panel flat for redying. Let everything dry a day or so, then apply some Lexol generously before reattaching to the vehicle. The Lexol does an amazing job of making the gloss of the redyed leather look uniform & even. Great stuff! A quart should do it! Good luck & cheers, Rich
