Hi everyone, new to the forum and after some advice. My friend has a 79 gts carb.UK spec with previous cosmetic rust issues. When it was raised in the workshop, a gap of about 5mm appeared at the back of the roof. On the ground, this closes up. I am pretty sure this is not normal flex - does anyone have any prior knowledge on chassis failure on these cars? Im guessing rust around the rear bulkhead chassis members. Also, if rot is there, will it be everywhere?? Glad its not mine - looks expensive!!
Both the GTB and the GTS have a full tube frame for that year.. While the does sound significant, it may not be a problem.....I'll let a GTS owner share their experiences as all of mine are GTBs....It'd take a lot of rusting to undermine the frame piping it's stout!
Thanks for the thoughts, but remember we are in the UK - we dream of texas cars! - you would not believe how rotten cars can get in this country!!
#20405 Sold new in Chicago #22127 Sold new in Canada #22641 Sold new in Oregon LOL! I have followed some of the restoration threads from the UK, Ferrari was not very thourough in thinking thru corrosion. Texas is a big place though, you are thinking the dryness of west Texas, I am on the coast near Galveston where we fight similar conditions to the UK on cars left outside...the fallout from Houston refineries is very unkind to paint finishes as well... The thought came to mind after my post that the car may not have been lifted correctly in your case, there a four designated points that should be used, you can see the notches looking at the lower rocker panels..
