Guys: We own a 1979 Boxer 512BB and we are having trouble getting the glove box latch to open. I know it is an electric release and I must have a blown fuse; but, I cannot locate the manual release to get to the fuses in the box. Can anybody help me?
I believe the manual release is a thin black wire to the right side of the box. It may seem like an electrical wire. Just make sure before yanking on it. Also, the electric strike may be working, just the glove box is not springing open. Try gently pulling on the glove box while you push the button repeatedly.
Agree with that. Also, my switch will sometimes do and sound like 'nothing' but if I relieve a little pressure by pushing the door slightly inward while hitting the trip switch, it'll unlatch. Best wishes.
I had this issue at one time, and for the life of me, couldn't find a Manual Release anywhere up there. If there is indeed a Manual Release for a Solenoid, I'm not sure how it would work, unless it is attached to the top (blind side) of the solenoid itself. Didn't find anything of the sort when I got mine open and took it apart. Maybe someone who has done their dash can shed more light on this. My problem turned out to be that the switch itself was bad, which I found after working that (insert choice of insults towards the git who decided that this was a good idea) Solenoid out and discovering....nothing. By jumping the contacts of the switch, it popped open, after using the "tap on the door itself" method as AHudon described. If you hear the Solenoid "click", the tap will do it; if you hear nothing, the switch may be bad (hopefully), or worse, that #@%*ing Solenoid.
