Good day All, Just adding some documentation... And black too. It is hard for me to say which is my favorite. Especially when seeing a yellow one like this.
A truly magnificent machine, one of nicest I've seen on here. I love when they say a few minor tweaks to pass the Classiche Certification. Wrong peddles, wrong exhaust, radio, does that count with the Classiche Police?? I can't wait to see if they pass this car. If they pass this car I'm sending my car for certification!
wrong radio? The injected boxers came with the Pioneer head and eq but a carb boxer did not. I was told even an MSD was a no-no for Classiche which really sucks.
Agreed, serious coin for what is finally considered to be a serious car. Where will values go from here? To my eye, the sensuous hand crafted lines of the Boxer are best suited in metallic colors. But I have particular fondness for fly yellow/boxer bottom. Even with non original bits, I see no reason to think they can't get their asking price.
As I recall from speaking with Rocco in Toronto, the engine's internals have seen some serious care and attention. I suspect this one is significantly more powerful that stock. While I still like red over black BBs, that yellow really grabs you. About 2 years ago, when driving near the beaches in Toronto in my '78 BB512, I came up behind this car. What are the odds of me in my '78 coming across a random '79 model, out for a drive on a Saturday on the same stretch of road? As we were going to the same destination, probably not so tiny. I hope it gets the price. Now, does anyone have a photo of what stereo unit should be in a 1978 BB 512? I know mine is (i) crappy and (ii) not original. I would settle for a crappy original one, but suspect it may cost more than a fantastic modern one.
I believe in '78 the stereos were dealer installed, so there is no "Original" model from the factory.
Yes, the car is supposed to be as it left the factory. So with an aftermarket exhaust I don't understand how they think it will pass. The radio and the peddles I'm not sure. The rest of the car looks OEM and perfect.
I removed the 10 pounds of junk stereo equipment and bought a radio blank plate from an Alfa parts place that has "Pininfarina" on it.
Looks like car has sold now. Now I know why I never got a call back after inquiring as to availability on Friday. Anyway, with all the work done on this car (Caribou spec engine rebuild, Newman diff, restored interior) and very well documented history, it seems like someone got a very good deal with a list of 349K CAD ----- that translates to approx. 280k USD. Nothing like getting a 10% discount over the last two months due to a weakening CAD dollar. Anyone on Fchat buy this car?
Yes, maybe when the owner sold it to Ferrari of Quebec. I finally spoke to Ferrari of Quebec today and was told someone put a deposit on it two weeks ago and it has finally been sold as of today. I think someone got an outstanding deal.
Good day All, Chassis 27553 is now on BaT https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-ferrari-512-bb-5/ Interestingly, the car now has 85436 KMs on the clock and so it has only travelled 110KM in the last 9 years (original post indicated 85326 Kms).... what a shame... Cheers, Sam
Good day George, Reviewing the car's info and docs, it looks like Carobu's efforts was limited to a cam reprofile and not the full Carobu rebuild (see pics). it looks like Rock's Auto and Cross Avenue Auto (Both in Ontario, Canada) did the actual rebuild. As for Carobu's site, there is only one Boxer rebuild listed: http://www.carobu.com/ferrari-v12-projects/2015/12/17/ferrari-512-bbi-restomod Cheers, Sam Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
