So after much messing around with both door lamps in my GT4, I finally got both of them to work when the passenger door is opened. There is ONE button-switch in the passenger door jamb.
Driver door open and the lights still do not go on.
So tonight I remove the panel and disconnect both switches.
The lower button switch has one wire to it, and the wire connector end rewards my giving a **** by disintegrating in my hands.
The upper switch has two wires that terminate in one connector at the switch.
I removed the switches, and cleaned off a lot of corrosion around the mounting hole, and the connector. I taped the lone wire to the hinge, and re-install the jamb plate with just the upper switch connected.
Now the driver door opens and the lights come on, just like they should.

    So now two questions:
1 - What does the other switch do? I do NOT have the upper dome lamp above the rear window (my car has the sunroof)
2 - Where can I get one of these switches?

    1) The other switch activates the seat belt buzzer as an 'ignition key reminder' that you are about to exit the car without taking the key with you. It's not a dome light switch (see 3)

Whether either switches is at the top or bottom, simply depends on the last person who connected them. I.e. position isn't important. Grounds are, as Kook mentions, so while the marker works now, make certain there is a good ground surface at both door and the escutcheon plate mounting the switch.

    2) Exact replacement switches aren't available although many are being sold purporting to fit. Be careful about what you buy so you aren't disappointed. After sending several sets of switches back (black plungers, oval plates, large diameter switch) I've left my secondary door switch as non functional unnecessary switch. GL

    3) The open door marker light in the end of the both doors also provides voltage to the the courtesy interior light in both doors turning them on when the switch at that light. is in the middle of 3 positions.

Thanks - the grounds were bad on both switches. Rectified that, and now the lights work.
I also very carefullt disassembled both door lamp assemblies to carefully bend the fingers back so that the lamp positions are more positive (and stay in that position).

As for the second switch - I don't want to listen to the buzzer anyway, so I'll be leaving it disconnected.

    Thanks again.
