working on my gt4 I found the access to the tailight is behind a solid Al "plates", one for each side which are riveted to the fiberglass center panel and the trunk frame. Does this mean I have to drill out the plates for access. then repeat as needed. I looked at a 75/76 version and the AL covers are much different, folds etc, and they have access holes cut in them. Any out there with a 78/79 gt4 able to clarify access to the tailights? could you post some pics of the access. In sort Mondays cars on the line are different from Fridays car.
    thank

Mine is hardboard covered with carpet. I expect chipboard is a restoration 'upgrade' ;-)

My 78 euro is hardboard with carpet. 4 screws secure it to the chassis spaceframe at top. 10 minute job to undo screws and bend the hardboard out.

I see it is all over the place. Hopefully I'll see a couple cars in person to see the differences.. My rear center panel is fiberglass and I've seen a 76 with all aluminium panel all the way across. May have to come up with something on my own.
Please send pics of the set up on your car particularily of the panel below the carpert on the ends.
    thanks
