Does anyone know if 308 GTS door speaker grills are available from a supplier, either new or used? I'm after both sides, thanks. Also, could anyone advise whether the front lower diffuser/splitter on a UK RHD 1981 308 GTS Carburettor model, should it have a flat underside or not? Lastly, I've seen photos of 308 GTS's with both grills on the bonnet in black & in body colour as well as the windscreen surround. Which is correct? Max
Black wing and bonnet grills are not correct for UK cars (in theory could be a special order which can only be confirmed by the factory). Black grills were fitted to US cars. I don't think bonnet grills in either color are valid on any 80/81 since they were introduced with the QV. All years have the grills on the wings behind the lights.
Fender vents are supposed to be body color on all cars up to 1983. (If you see black ones on a non black carbed or 2Vi they were painted that way by an owner). The QVs had black vents over here in the USA and a few other places. Most "Euros" were body colored.
Good luck with those speaker grills, they are really hard to find. If I would need them I would seriously think about having new ones machined on a milling.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I've acquired a 308 GTS & clearly I have a lot to learn about this model. Like all Ferrari's, they are individual & have there own typical Maranello idiosyncrasies. However, the grills behind the headlights on my car are painted black. Photos I have of the bodywork restoration carried out by the previous keeper shows the grill sanded down prior to repainting, but there are no signs of the car's body colour on it through the sanded layers. ...I will have to contact Tony Willis for the factory paperwork. If there is another owner of a UK 308 GTS 1980-81 carb model (I presume they are all the same?), could you let me know if the underside of their front air dam/splitter is flat underneath, open or does it have a metal or fibreglass panel? Thanks Max
They are supposed to be body colored, trust me. Lots have been painted black so you are not alone, though. There are no 81 carbed models either.
Max, Are you looking for the leather covered grilles made of punched door card material or the plated cast metal grilles? Best...Jim
Hi max I've never see a front valance without the underside before Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
