I am thinking about selling my 308 and I want to see if this is priced correctly. I am the 4th owner with all the information and location of the 3 other owners. The car has 52,000, black, and red interior, the seats have been re-done with the correct Ferrari leather. The belts were changed 2 years ago and 1000 miles at Ferrari of Dallas. The car runs great but it may have a weak 2nd sycro, shifts fine from 1st to 2nd but it will crunck from 3rd to 2nd all the other gears shift perfect. With that being said I have over 35k in the car including what I paid and since I am not sure about the syncro but if it needs to be changed I have been told anywhere from 4 to 6k. I am going to ask 23,500.00 for the car is that a fair price?
    Thanks for your help.

Is that all that it needs? How is the paint and rest of the cosmetics?

It is good that you are asking here. There are lots of guys who know more than me. I do know that you have to try to look at your car as a buyer and separate how much you have spent on it as that has nothing to do with value. I would suggest that you go back and look at the car, panel by panel and evaluate the specific condition of each one in a note book. Then do the same with the interior.. Of course, then repeat this under the front/rear lids and underneath the car.

How good is the engine and suspension? Has it been PPI'd? Has it got a fresh smog certificate? All this counts to anyone looking to spend money. If you want a valid answer here, this would help a lot. One last thing. Good, detailed images of all of it.

    Good luck

    JR

Thank you for your input I really do appreciate any advice. The car looks great, paint is good, no dents, never wrecked the interior is perfect i spent over 2k to get the correct leather from Ferrai to redo the seats, the seats had one tear on the driver side but I decided to replace both. When I got the car I had Ferrari of Dallas do new cam belts and they checked the car out, it does run great except the crunch from 3rd to 2nd. Thanks

That's almost 'normal' operation, of the balky second gear synchro...they are stiff until warm.

Sounds like a fair price, to me......good luck!

Some people ask more but those cars aren't selling. That sounds priced to sell efficiently without giving it away. It just sounds so low for such a car, but I don't think it is too low.

Is is a spider or berlinetta? I think that may make a slight difference in pricing. Personally I prefer the hardtop over the spider. J

Gary, here's a suggestion relating to the sale process for you 308. It would be pretty typical for a prospective buyer of a 308 to get a PPI (that's a reasonable thing) and then come back with the typical long list of needed repairs and say "my mechanic says it's going to cost $9,000 to fix the itemized list of mechanical issues so I can offer you $14,500 for the car." In other words, $23,500 less $9,000 in checks written to mechanics to fix the various maladies. That's a pretty big gap to close to get to an agreed sales price that isn't a give-away price for a decent car. So if you want to end up around $20,000 for a final sales price it might be wise to start out a little higher.

Personally, when I get that "here's the list and the costs to fix" line from a prospective buyer who then wants to automatically take that off the asking price of the vehicle, I politely respond that this appears to not be the right car for that person, thank them for their time and bid them good day. It's a used car for god's sake - if they need a car with no issues or wear and tear then they need to go to a new car dealer and pay new car prices. Ultimately, in my experience, half the time they're calling the next day saying they'll go ahead and pay the asking price for the car...

Incidentally, most 308s have a clunky second gear, just some are worse than others...so your car isn't totally unique/defective in that respect.

Thank you so much for your input I do appreciate your knowledge on selling a 308. I am not selling this car because I have to I am just trying to make room in my garage so I can emjoy the cars I own, so I am not going to do a fire sale on it because it is a very nice car. If you go up on the all british and european car show of dallas in 2009 my car beat all of the other 308's nad other ferrari's there that day, except for a 1960 GT250. It is a very nice car and I know it's history.
    Thanks, gary

Your price looks fine to me. Figure 5K for a trans rebuild from a shop. If the car shifts fine when warm it might be an adjustment.

actually I have decided to keep it, one of the problems I have had on this site is all the propetual looking to buy a 308 people. There appears to be a few that are on many treads looking to buy a 308 and they appear to take people's time up with the same questions. What is that all about, there are 308's out there and if someone wants one make an offer and get a PPI, these emails from people wanting a dissertation of info when they are given the number to call to talk direct is just a waste of our time. Real buyers really make an attempt to contact real seller's to start the buying process and to get to know the owner to see if they are for real. So with that said I know I am going to get some nasty responses but so beit. Anyway after my short attempt to get feed back on a fair price I was disappointed in some of the PM's I got, so I am going to keep the car.

It seems to be that way with any car for sale, worse with these of course. They are what they are. When I purchased my car I was the first in 9 months who said I'd just need to look at it. The serious buyer only comes along so often. You aren't the only one who has had a bad selling experience here. It's a great car to keep around :)

Good choice. Since you are keeping it, are you in the habit of double clutching your downshifts? If not you might extend the life of your second gear sincro that way.
