Guy's I'm going through the car and need a picture of original vehicle to make sure it's all in order. I know the cam covers are black but what about the plenum? I've seen people with mill finish and black even red.

    Airbox - Black.

    Manifold - Natural Aluminum.

    Cam Covers - Natural Aluminum.

    Belt Covers - Natural Aluminum.

No 'Red' in the 80-82 GTB/Si engine bay I know of from the factory.

I heard a very few MAY have snuck out of the factory with black cam covers but it was in no way the norm.

    Pros?

Can't post pics but my 1980 gtsi has NO red cam. plenum or other red covers. Airbox and coolant tank black. NO powdercoated aluminum or painted silver anywhere. Just natural uncoated aluminum color.

1980 2v injected 308's had an unpainted plenum and clock/temperature gauge in a vertical stack position in centre console, no central locking or electric external rear view mirror and 14' wheels.

For 1981 Model year in USA market came black plenum, central locking and horizontal gauge arrangement in centre console and Metric 390mm wheels with Michelin TRX tires as well as electric rear view external mirror. A special supplement with the changes (212/81 )was produced and provided with the original 1980 MY owners manual.

Someone always wants to argue about something they have no direct knowledge of...my car came with numerous "special order" options...this was one of them!

No I don't know the history of every 3x8 that came from the factory. And there is no 'argument' here unless you want to drive one.

So yours 'came that way' from the factory as a FACTORY Option?

Highly probable that a previous owner did the pinstriping on your cam covers and plenum.
Going to agree with Mark on this one.. Factory docs./build sheet or it didn't happen. :)

My car, I know the history, end of "my part" of the story...discuss amongst yourselves :)
P.S. I didn't mention pin stripes on the plenum and there weren't any...cam cover raised lines and Ferrari logos only, as pictured...and I didn't mention "Factory" options, I said "special order"! :)

My mistake. You mentioned Ferrari logo and I just assumed Plenum. Do you have the original sales Docs? I would think special order would be in reference to something a dealership offered and not the factory. Just trying to understand how you're coming to this conclusion. No offense meant.

Also in post #6 you mention these changes were made at factory level.

    OK.

So maybe the OP can be a little clearer in the info he is looking for.

'Standard' Factory Offering or 'Special Order.'

Nice. I've seen it where owners completely paint their cam covers then remove the paint on the Ferrari insignia and raised portions of the cover for the opposite effect.. :)

I personally dated this change in early November 1980 for US cars, ie at the time when the model was started to be offered in Europe (which never had the vertical console and aluminium plenum). I do not know if that exactly corresponds to the US model year change, it was at the time of the first months of the use of this commercial standard in Europe (the model year).

None of the cam cover were black for the 308 except the one deliver with the ultra rare sprint pack option available for carbureted car. then they were black vermiculate painted.
