I would check the in tank filter. Sometimes they come apart and small pieces can clog in the pump and cause pumps to fail prematurely.

Could be many things than. Clogged fuel filter, restriction in the line somewhere, are you getting excess amounts of water in your gas? Maybe excessive current draw somewhere in the circuit overloading the pump.

Had the same problem with my 81' GTSi. Fuel pump went out twice in 2 weeks, turned out to be rotted fuel lines and the fuel filter that sits in the gas tank rotted away as well. Replaced all fuel hoses and replaced sump screen in tank and have had no problems since.

Is this filter in the driver or passenger-side tank?
I have the latter removed for work on the alternator. If the filter is in this one it would be a good time to replace it.

I believe it was in the driver side tank. If I remember correctly when I took off my muffler last week I noticed new looking weld marks on the driver side tank where they would have welded in the new part.

I installed a "Pre-Filter" From the tank nipple, I installed a 30 micron Evil Energy inline filter before the fuel pump. Seemed to be a natural choice to help protect the pump and the check valve. Nice filtered fuel goes to the rest of the system, but these early components might take a beating. This also helps with other matters. 1) I get to have anther place to drain the tank. 2) Should I purchase a different pump, I can get a different AN-10 fitting to go to a different sized line. The correct fuel pump is getting hard to find, and alternates out there have a smaller fuel line than the tank nipple.

I install inline filters as well. I use the -10 Earls brand with a stone filter. I machine the -10 into a barb that fits the 5/8 feed hose. Works well and can be easily cleaned.
