My first time leaving a thread. After sitting in the garage for 3 weeks while I was on vacation the car will not start. It cranks great, just will not catch. I have: 1. Pulled the blue wire off the fuel distributor, turned the key on and listened for the fuel pump. I heard it. 2. Pulled a plug and checked for spark. I had it. 3. Replaced the relays for the fuel pump and start injector. 4. Removed the air filter and pushed the round metal plate down and got a swish sound. (It took two pushes to get swish). 5. Replaced the battery. I did not get the smell of gas while cranking the engine. After pushing the metal plate down I did get the faint smell of gas. I have had the car for 33 years. It is all original. This is the first time this has happened. The car sits 4 to 5 months every winter. I am beginning to wonder if the muck that must have accumulated in the bottom of the gas tank is clogging things up. I would be grateful for any help. Thanks
I had a similar problem. Even though mine had spark I found that the spark was intermittent and weaker on one bank vs other. In the end I had to change the crank sensors. This is supposed to be a common problem. Before changing sensors, what helped me start it was removing a couple spark plugs from each bank and it ran (very loud) because the engine was easier to turn over. I double checked the spark when it was running and again found one bank weak and intermittent. I got new spark plug wires from Dave Helms and I bought crank sensors from Ricambi. Rifledriver has a thread that says you can remove the crank sensor and test the continuity while gently tapping on the bench to see if it is bad. Hopefully you figure things out soon. Brent.
