To start with, I don't have a lot of experience with Porsches, especially with what I consider "modern", so any experienced advise or suggestions for following would be greatly appreciated.

A client has a 1980 928 with 7 x 16 MAHLE BBS wheels, which according to client (second owner) were possibly dealer offered option. Current tires on them are Pirelli P7 225/50 R 16.
The problem is that the tires/wheels appear to have somewhat inadequate off-set, especially in front where they rub against the fender arch.

Are there any good source(s) for this type of wheels with variety of off-sets in compatible or similar sizing that would fit the car better ?
Owner prefers not to replace them with O.E. type, "5 round-hole" wheels.

contact BBS directly... the wheels should be marked in some way, they can help with finding your wheel specs and have a quick reference to the designed spec vs which BBS wheel you have

the 928 were offered with 2 wheel sizes ( 15"for the MT and 16" for the auto) depending on whether the car was equipped with manual or automatic transmission... could be that something more than wheel diameter changed

Not a fan of the BBS wheels on the 928, IMHO they 'date' the car.... an alternative would be the 'flat dish' wheels, std. on later cars....no offset problems there...did that myself with 2 early cars

    Thanks to both of you.
I'll contact BBS and see what they may suggest. I was hoping to just find some pre-owned/used wheels of similar size/style with better accomodating off-set.

Tritone: I discussed this "flat dish" wheel option with the owner, but it was concluded (with all due respect) that their appearance is perhaps better suited for 80's or 90's family (MB ?) sedan than sports car and in his view, the O.E. "5-hole wheels" would be more appropriate choice.

Search continues and any additional advise will be appreciated.

That's not correct. All 928s had 16 inch wheels except for the GTS which had 17s.

ooops, I had a typo and reversed the wheel sizes.... should be 16 for MT and 15 for the auto, don't know when they switched to all 16s and larger, the 15s and 16s were correct for at least the first couple of years...

Only the very early 928s had the 15" phone-dial wheels, but starting in 1980 all models came with 16s, which continued up to the last model, the GTS, which had 17s. However, 17s can be adapted for the pre-GTS cars. I believe 18 inch wheels are generally discouraged.

These kinds of these choices are SO subjective....;-)

IMHO the 928 seems to be less "receptive" to many wheel styles, more so than other models (911 comes to mind; lots of choices....)

Too bad I didn't know your client earlier; I use old "phone dials" for garden hose reels for some of my more adventurous design clients.....;-)

Does the 928 have differing offsets, like the 944 and the 85.5+ 944? I have seen some 928s with the turbo twists and they look nice to me.

Thank you for this suggestion. I just got a reply from BBS confirming the pictured wheel design with its specs currently on the car was offered for 911s in the '80's/'90's and never with 928 offset specs. They also provided advised on some other design they produced for 928s, but those haven't been available for over 20 years either.

Thanks to all who offered useful information. Armed with everything I was able to learn here and elsewhere, the owners son has now been delegated to find wheels they prefer to use on the car.

A couple of tuners use to fit the 911 Fuchs, as another option.
