I thought I would share my current project and some history on the vehicle. In 1990 my late father purchased a damaged LHD Mondial 8 and we transported the car back from Switzerland. It is a Uk registered LHD car. We used to own one of the largest salvage companies in the UK. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures of it in its damaged state. The vehicle was then straightened and all the panels were fitted so it was ready for the paint stage. Unfortunately the chap who was doing it at the time moved away so it did not get finished. It was then stored inside for 21 years in pieces. I thought now would be a good time to dig everything out of the shed and finally finish it! The first picture is when we got it out of the shed 2 months ago. the last picture was taken today in its current state. I will keep posting pictures as I go along. What a fantastic story and endeavor! Thanks for sharing this with us - I'm certainly looking forward to seeing updated pictures. Can you tell us the serial number?
What's the s/n of your Mondi? Is it on the registry yet? -It would be the oldest one. Mine is an '81 and is the third oldest...
The serial number is 36973. I have now checked and the car is actually a 1981....... It was registered on the 1/6/1981.
I win! - Mine is #36813, manufactured in April '81. It was restored in Berlin in 2004 where I bought it and subsequently shipped it to Canada. It was actually metallic blue originally, but the previous owner had it repainted in rosso corsa. The paint shop did such a good job that I only found out from the Ferrari factory that it was originally a blue car... On the Mondial registry, it is the oldest one still on the road (#1 is listed as a "major restoration project"...). Good luck with your re-build! Walter Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sorry...just went over the registry thread again and there is a more updated list on page 17. Yours would be #4...
Very cool, gentlemen, thank you! Both of your cars were built in April, 1981. And they're relatively early within the scope of Mondial 8 production.

Oh wow... that's a sad Mondial Is it worth saving? If so then you might want to start a new thread. I'm sure there will be considerable interest as well.
As you say it was too far gone. I used as much as i could to make a great job of another Mondial 8 that i still own and enjoy. Loads of parts left.
But, that was a very RARE Bertone' Mondial-8,,,,, as per the photos. Hey, do you have the Right Rear Glass and window Frame...? PM me... I have some Ferrari and Mondi parts,,, etc. What do you need,,,? maybe we can trade....? Love the green color. My 1981 was blue, now it is Nero. Edwardo Mondial 8 # 37067
The red one was certainly passed it! I have also broken a 1981 in rosso for parts for my green one above. Not had a very good weekend with mine...... Removed the engine & box to find the antifreeze that has turned to a crystalized gel which in turn has blocked all the waterways........ I started investigating further to find the oil was also not good and had turned to grease. Decided to take the heads off to have a look at the valve seats and the mojority of the valves were also stuck down. The bores looked mint though. Then made the decision to rebuild the full engine....... I am now looking at a bare block and bare heads ready to be machined and cleaned! I was hoping it would be running this weekend..... Might be a couple of weeks now! It looks lke Superformance are going to lighten my wallet again tomorrow! Not sure what to do about gearbox..... Rebuild or take a chance.......!
Can anyone help me with a workshop manual? I can only find the parts manual on the net. I need all the torque settings for the engine & gearbox........
Just a quick note to thank people for their help with my project. It is now completed! I have been busy! It has taken only 4 months too get the car back together and up and running after it had been stood in bits for nearly 25 years! The car has had a full respray, engine & gearbox complete rebuild, interior reconditioned etc etc. I have just mot'd the car and driven it for the first time. After hearing lots of comments about the Mondial being the worst Ferrari ever made I would like to comment "What a load of rubbish"! The car pulls really strong in every gear and is an absolute pleasure to drive! I love it too bits! I will get some pictures up over the weekend. I still have a couple of issues to sort. ie the fuel guage is not working and rear foglamps. I look forward too having a long and happy relationship with it and hopefully my bank account will recover soon!
Fantastic! I'll be looking forward to the pictures, hopefully many of them, never get tired of looking at an engine in pieces. That was quick work. Enjoy and may you have many trouble free miles.
Finally got there. Have loads more pictures! Do I like the car? No, I love it! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
