    Car runs fine most of the time, but has reoccurring problem of no RPM reading and very rich fuel burn at same time. Have yet to figure out a pattern. Has done this during driving and also after sitting for awhile. Cleaning plugs and pulse sensors will usually temporarily solve the problem, but I never say I'll be right back when I'm out for a drive. Any good ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

    (Assuming that your 1980 308GTSi still has the stock ignition system, and that you mean the tach stops working, but the engine continues to run on only one bank) One fairly painless experiment you can try is swapping the DigiPlex ECUs:

    If the tach then works OK, but you still lose power and only run on one bank = bad sign for one of the DigiPlex ECUs;

    If the symptom remains unchanged (i.e., tach stops working, but the engine continues to run on one bank) = bad sign for one of the TDC flywheel sensors.

    (If I have mis-described your symptom, please clarify.)

    Neither of those difficult to fix, but the TDC sensor would be a boatload less expensive!
