1980’s Ferrari Formula 1 Steering Wheel Award

Here are two that were at auction recently.

From what I know they were promotional framed "F1 style" wheels from circa 1985 that were distributed to MOMO retailers used to promote the connection between Ferrari and MOMO.

It seems the original factory fitted brass plaque was replaced with a customised, personalised version.

Because they were never for sale they can be quite sought after as quite cool office/study/bedroom/garage wall furniture.

I'll bet my dear, late friend John Kelly had something to do with it. He was president of FCA at about that time and lived in Boca Raton, so surely he was there, may have even presented it to your parents.

 

These were sold in the back of Road & Track magazines in the '80s for about $350 in period. I've got one for sale in the classifieds section if anyone is interested in buying one.

 

I had one. Sold it last year, I think for $300

I agree its a promo item, but a repro of the F1 wheel, "of that time"...
Perhaps I will keep it, as it smashed a lot of keepsakes as I hung it high on the wall....LOL!
