Health and age issues have made the very hard decision for me to pass on my original one owner "Time Capsule/Garage Queen" to her next care taker. After 35+ years, this is no easy deal for me. Where to start; I special ordered the car in July of 1980 from RAB Motors in San Rafael, CA., took delivery in February 1981. I wanted the car painted ROSSO BARCHETTA, with Tan interior, and 16" wheels. When I got her, I had the entire car clear coated with DuPont Imron by a friends custom paint shop. She still looks as good as the day I picked her up. The car has never been wet! The only moisture to ever touch her has been quick detail spray or car polish. I have all books, tools, service records, car fax, and some special extras that were given to me from the factory. All service work was done by the dealer while under factory warranty, than by two of the best Ferrari mechanics in the San Francisco Bay area. When I moved to Scottsdale, AZ. in 1996, at the recommendation of my former mechanic, I went to Jeff LaBlond , who did my service work until I again moved to Star Valley, AZ. Andy Falbo, who is probably one of the best Ferrari mechanics in Arizona, now takes care of her. He believes my car is one of the finest original examples of a 1981GTSi that he has had come through his shop.
Some specifics: When I moved to Arizona, I had the CA. emission system removed. I still have all the parts if she goes back to California. The car has 36672 original documented miles. I replaced the tires with Goodyear Eagles in 2003 and have put less than 500 miles on them. Andy did a major service on her in late 2014, since than I probably have only put on 150 miles. Since owning her, I have been doing my own oil changes, usually about every 9 months or so. With the 308 market right now, I feel a fair price, considering what this car is, would be $89K. I have been approached by two of the High End auction houses to list the car for the Monterey, CA auction in August, with a much higher reserve, but would prefer to sell her to someone here. I have attached several pictures, please PM me for any specifics or additional pictures that you may want.

    Regards,
    William

Some additional information and pictures: The car has the original spare tire (TRX) and a battery charger. She has a car cover and the cover for the targa top is perfect. I also have the original California registration and license plate. She is now registered with historic plates in Arizona. This is a very difficult thing for me to do.

    Big Tex,

The paint shop had the car for months while it was being prepped. My friend Brent that painted her, said that Imron was so hard, you could beat it with a hammer and it would not show a scratch or mark, the metal work would cave in before anything would show on the surface. After 35+ years it's still perfect!

I want to thank everyone for their positive replys. Someone is going to get a truly great car that is in impeccable condition. One thing about the 2v car's, they may not be the fastest, but they are very reliable. You can drive them all day and not have to worry about them overheating.

Absolutely beautiful package...one of the rare times I see a 308/328 that actually deserves a good premium to the market (vs. 90% of the other 308/328s that dealers are trying to mark up above market when it isn't warranted)

Best of luck with the sale- I am sure that it is hard to see her go!

I've just noticed this thread. I miss my younger days, but fortunately have no regrets that I can't put into perspective. When to part with a Ferrari is a tough one, but I'm glad for you that you have a pretty cool plan of finding a good home for her and enjoying the Rolls. Coincidentally, my grandfather was a dentist, and part of his experience came on a USN carrier. He missed the octane gene. Fortunately, my awesome parents were car-nuts.

As for the 2V being fast -- Have you ever heard of the Virginia City Hillclimb? It runs from Silver City to Virginia City Nevada, the only place that can offer such events. About 25 years ago, the Ferrari 308 group was pretty well subscribed, and grouped GT4 / GTB,S / GTB,Si / QV / 328 / 348 etc. As a participant, I recall The fastest times were turned by injected 2V cars. What's that saying about competition? "You never remember who you beat, and will never forget who beat you". I was running a euro tuned carb GTS, and I took a first in my class after many years which I was proud of given the number of contenders, but the 2V injected cars were still faster!

Yours is gorgeous, and you've taken great care with it. I too am impressed with paint (and the whole car).

Good luck with your health, and good luck with the sale.

It looks like the car is sold. Now I just have to figure out how to complete the sale. The buyer is from another state and if anyone can give me some advice on how to complete the sale, get paid and pass on all the needed paperwork. I would forever be in their debt.

Its really easy just sign over title and give a bill of sale just to be safe. For the money, most people bank with national banks. Just accompany them to a branch. Watch the teller do the cashiers check. Easy. If they bank at small bank in their state only. Just do a wire and don't release the car until the funds hit your account.

The buyer is in another state and l guess the only way to proceed is by doing a wire transfer. I believe his concern is not being cheated out of his money. Is this the normal way of completing this type of a sale?
