Greetings! Is the throttle return spring supposed to be at such an angle as shown in the photo? The parts diagram shows it as a straight shot (#38), attaching to a plate (#39). On my car it’s at a 45 degree upward angle. Sometimes it doesn’t want to return all the way to idle and I suspect this is the cause. Can anyone tell me if this is the way it’s supposed to be installed? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Where is the other end of the spring secured to ? I’ll grab a pic of mine shortly, but my spring is horizontal Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Not easy to see where it’s secured to, but I suspect it’s not connected correctly. Since I can’t see what it’s attached to I can only imagine what type of fun it’ll be to install it correctly.

Thanks for the quick pics. That’s exactly how I expected it to look. I’ll have to see if that bracket is there. Were you able to fit that new spring without removing the plenum? Thanks for your help.
Yes it’s a pain though. From memory I put a long cable tie on one end of the spring , secured the other end of the spring to the bracket first , you can then poke the cable tie up to the throttle body and use it to pull the spring up to the throttle plate. I have a pair of needle nose pliers that are about 10” long and I think they came in handy too, definitely did it without pulling the plenum off Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I took a peek in there with an endoscope and confirmed that the bracket is there and the spring is attached. I’d guess that it was ‘too long’ when routed straight so whoever installed it ran it over that cross piece instead of under it. If the spring wasn’t too long before, I’m certain it is now.
May just have been routed on the wrong side of the casting web (and seems like that's why the hook end of the spring was also connected to the wrong place on the throttle plate bracket).
Yes, the throttle plate closes correctly. As it gets closer to the ‘closed’ position, though, the spring pulls as much ‘up’ as it does ‘back’. I’ll start with a new spring, install it correctly, and go from there.
Final answer: the throttle plate closes correctly with this arm disconnected. The bushing is gummed up and the arm doesn’t rotate freely. I’ll just clean/lube it and that should fix it. I’ll guess the spring was re-routed to give it more tension in hopes of pulling the throttle plate all the way shut. It worked for a while. Now it’ll work for a lot LONGER while.
Cleaned, lubed, installed new return spring (because I already had it) and routed the spring properly (straight shot under the casting web rather than over it). 100% fixed.
