I am regretfully considering selling my Delorean. It is painted blue, but was originally painted red at the dealership when new (Tate Cadillac in Pomona). Approximately 25,000 miles and a solid Hagerty #2 car. This car spent its first 30 years in California with it's first owner. The second owner had it for a couple years, and I am the third owner.

I have 125 photos of the car here:

Looking for $32,500 or near offer. The car is located outside of Philadelphia. Thanks.

I've never seen a painted one, I sort of like it, especially in blue. Best of luck.

Thanks! I think they look much better painted, but it does offend the purists. Many of the dealer-painted cars have been returned to stainless, which I think is a shame.

Didn’t some of them come from the factory painted? I thought some of the later ones did.

ALMOST true. Factory also offered a 24k gold plated edition. Appears factory put together 2 & one was built after factory close from parts on hand.

p.s.: The blue car for sale looks incredible. Best color I've seen on a painted car.

Actually David the Gold plated cars were an American Express Gold card promotion, not factory!

I really love Deloreans, and always found the painted ones to look pretty neat and unique. Not commenting on your asking price, but as a long time Delorean owner I would have to say this one is somewhere between 3 and 4 on the Hagerty scale. Some low hanging fruit that would help get it up to a two:

    - Wash it :) A good detailing of the engine compartment and everywhere else would work wonders.
    - Paint the bumpers. Any good body shop should be able to mask them off and paint them pretty cheap.
    - Steam clean the carpet, or replace the section that is stained, as Delorean carpets are in sections.
    - If you can afford it, pull of the valve covers and intake and have them painted. It works wonders on the appearance of the engine bay. Likewise, the timing chain cover covers almost the whole front of the engine and is a big win to paint it.
    - Replace the shifter boot
    - If you can, find a replacement binnacle, or get yours covered. Having a crack right in the middle of where the driver looks all the time can really drag the car down. Mine was cracked when I got it so I know.

Overall the car does present well. The interior looks to be in good shape, the wheels look nice, and the body looks good. Tidy it up a bit and you'll have a solid #2.

Hi, I just saw your post. Thank you for checking out the photos and giving me some very useful tips. As an owner I sometimes become blind to the flaws of a car, but obviously a potential buyer is looking carefully for those flaws. If I decide to step up my efforts on selling the car (I wouldn't mind if it doesn't sell!) I will probably cross most of these things off the list and retake the photos. Thanks again.

Thanks! I heard there was a problem getting paint to stick in the early days, but they seem to have figured it out. Someone gave this car an incredible paint job in the last few years. The original paint was red, and was probably tired before the repaint.

Did you see the Flickr album? I should have used my wide angle lens for better interior shots, I think I only had my 50mm on hand when I took the photos.
