1981 Ferrari 308 gts/i - $8000 He says the body is straight and complete with "minor rust". #35183 Timing belt is hanging out of it. So we can guess what that means Interior needs to be redone. I guess this one will be parted out. Near Charlottesville Virginia about 2 hours from my house. If it was a little closer I would go look just out of curiosity. Can anyone think of a good reason to go look at something like this?
The guy says he is getting lots of calls. Two people came to look. Best offer so far $5200 he turned it down. I might go down tomorrow take a look and post some pictures. He says he is not interested in parting it out. Basically he loaned a used car dealer some money. The dealer went out of business. He ended up with a bunch of cars. He would rather have money. He believes that the dealer paid about $11000 for it. Anything in particular anyone wants me to look at? Anyone in Northern VA want to car pool with me? If I bought this thing to part out what do you think I could sell the parts for? It would be really sad to watch a 308 disappear like this. Incidentally my 308 now occupies the spot left vacant by the car in the video. It would also be a good way to really learn a lot about a 308 without having to take mine all apart. I am pretty good at ebay, I've been buying fixing and flipping Geo Metros on ebay (hence the name GeoMetry) for about 5 times what I pay for them.
Hey If you got a chance to go look at this car and take pics im interested to see what it looks like. please IM me or send me a email johnny
see, this is the kind of thing that interests me. Sure, if ya just want one to drive, it's better to get pretty much any other car. If you're a gearhead, and enjoy spending time working on a car, then something like this might be fun to disassemble and reassemble.
I am surprised no one commented on my time lapse movie. I did not go yesterday. If it is still available later in the week and I am really bored I might think about it again. I am still wondering what the parts are worth. My wife did give a conditional approval for the purchase.
Ya, but if that were a 308 I'd have to go hunting someone down. Some things are worth more than money
hard to put a price on the parts, it depends how good the parts are...if it were here in my backyard, i would pay 8000 for it and keep it for spares or sell some to those in need. You will have to do a lot of advertising on ebay and ferrariads to sell some, and then work hard at removing them from the car. Moeny can be made from this, depending on luck.
If I buy it, there will be a similar movie. I guess since I don't want to be "hunted down" I just won't post it.
So I went to look at it. The interior is trashed. See the timing belt hanging out? Lots of rust. Very sad. I have more pictures if someone needs them. The guys CraigsList listing expired but it is still available. Here is his number 434-965-3077 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Easy -- the timing belt broke, forkeled the engine. He got an estimate to repair it, and when he stopped choking, he parked it out back and then the raccoons went to work on it. Finally decided to get rid of it. It's easier than you think for things like that to happen. Sad. But, of course, it just makes all the remaining ones that much rarer and that much more valuable. So, now I'm going out in the garage, cuddle my 308 and get her ready to go out for a nice spirited drive and show her how much I appreciate her!
there's still a lot of money to be made off that car, gauges, rad, wheels, just a whole lot of parts that aren't out there any more if it were closer I would buy it!
That was the basic idea I had but I need some help with the math. Give me some realistic used part prices for parts I could actually sell. If I had a list of a dozen or so parts with realistic price estimates that added up to $6000 I would feel more comfortable with the idea. I am primarily interested in two things; Not losing a lot of money and I think it would be fun to learn how a 308 is put together by taking one apart, with no requirement to put it back together.
Really sad to see a 308 treated like that.. Someone posted here that 2 308's/week are lost due to rust, blown engine, collision, theft etc. I guess this is one of them, horribly expensive , even with "free" labor to bring this one back.
