That's a hefty price for an auto 400i with side markers! The car is absolutely pristine and registered in California which does command a higher price than the usual $45~80.000. Will watch if they manage to get their asking price.

A while back there was a 5 speed (I think) on BaT that went for around $120K but that is about the only 400i of any type that I have seen trade for six figures.

They may be able to get $189K for a pristine 400iA but only if it has this in the glove compartment:

They need to find some Hollywood-type that "has to have it".

Note: the ebay car is less than one hour from ending with an asking price of $50K.

Didn't sell on BaT in October either where the high bid was $37,750.

Asking price can be anything the buyer hopes to get but it is the bids that show where the market value is.

    Good day John,

It looks like I forgot to post about chassis 40271 when it was offered by the same dealer last Spring (2023) with an ask of $199K USD. Below is the add at that time along with a few pics.

Also, Chassis 40271 used to be an fchatter car given these past posts:

    Good day Gentlemen,

The car you are both referring to on Ebay is Chassis 45105 and is not the car in this thread which is chassis 40271.

Chassis 45105 has existing thread that can be found here:

I thought the price was a typo. Why are they asking $189k for this car? 60k miles and an auto transmission. I guess it’s on consignment and the seller wants his $185k resto investment back.

Probably banking in this little tidbit bringing in some more money:

"The story behind this particular 1982 400i is quite an interesting one, with its first owner registered as Ferrari S.p.A. Modena, it was likely used by F1 drivers of that year, possibly even Mr. Ferrari himself."

That's cool and all, but without provenance, it's just an interesting story.

Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Well, what we do know is that Ferrari Spa was the 1st owner. Verified by Marcel. Impossible to know who ever drove the car, but it probably wasn't the janitor or front desk person for sure.

Dealers always push up the prices as much as they can. I never felt like this was the right price either but I spent all the money, $200k on it so maybe worth a try. I was crazy and must have been a little drunk when planning this resto. I just wanted a vintage Ferrari to use as my daily car that I could drive to the office and be very reliable. In the process it got expensive and I couldn't turn back. In the end the car turned out amazing, beyond my expectations really. A big difference in the driving experience from when I started and finished.

I have taken the car to shows and most recently to Ferrari Concorso in Pasadena and it scored 97 points out of 100, so not too bad. Used it a bit but it took so long to complete I have moved on to different car interests now. I'm saving up for a 250 GTL. Selling a few cars to get there. This 400i, my 1971 Ferrari 365 GTC4, 1967 Ghia 450 SS, 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal, and 1973 Lamborghini Espada.
