    1982 400i Automatic
    Color: Rosso Corsa
    Features: Dual A/C Model

    Chassis: 40065
    VIN: ZFFEB06B000040065
    Miles: 38080

Ferrari Classiche: Has not gone through process, but was told by Continental it would be a strong candidate
    Titled: Illinois (Chicago Vacation Home)
    Registered: Illinois (Chicago Vacation Home)
    Emissions Status: Exempt in Illinois
Currently Resides: Santa Clara, California, USA (Shipped into San Francisco Bay Area to drive around during Monterey Car Week)
CA BAR Sticker: None, no modifications done to engine/emissions/fuel system in order to preserve future Classiche status
    CA Registration Information: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/365-gt4-2-2-400-412/233297-smog-importation-into-california-400i.html

Reason for Selling: Casa Ferrari Monterey clinched my decision to purchase a 2010 California. Many F-Chatters may disagree, but I do not need 2 prancing horses in the stable.

The car has been professionally serviced most of its life at the original Dealer, Continental Ferrari, and well-preserved by a top notch body shop that shares its space with one of the greatest Alfa Romeo mechanics in the country.

    Asking price: $34,900

Price justification: Car is close to Hagerty Vehicle Condition 1 - $39,700 found at the following link.

    https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vbe=83359

Exterior 9/10, Interior 9/10, runs and drives as a car of its era would. It could use the following following parts and labor to reach Condition 1 level, and I have priced this in.

    1 105598 Exh Manifold - $1290
    1 105598 Exh Manifold - $1290
    4 147630 Gasket - $76
    4 147631 Gasket - $76
    4 146698 Gasket - $76
    20 127496 Washer/Lock D.8-14.9 - $20
    20 179808 Nut M 8X1.25X7.6 - $20
    DUCEL 4888 12V 17A A/C Fan Motor - $300
8 hours of dedicated, skilled Ferrari labor at $150-$200/hr rate

Around $4800 in parts and labor needed

Hello everyone, thank you for all the interest and offers. Compression test completed today from the best, Juan from Grand Prix Motors Campbell, CA, USA, revealed that the cause of the slight coolant leak was *not* due to the head gaskets, but due to a variety of hoses and pumps that needed to be swapped out due to age. I have this work scheduled to be done on November 2nd:

    Coolant hoses
    Rebuild water pump
    Water pump kit
    Hose clamps
    Coolant change
    Change oil and filters
    Heater hose

Juan did say that the exhaust manifolds could be repaired for much lower cost than replacement, and that the car is due for a completely new exhaust. The 400 forum has a variety of articles on the cost to replace that.

I had a few people making offers before the compression test, and I thought those that were on the fence before the test should know the good news. Let's talk over PM. Thanks for your interest.

So just to be clear, on Nov 2nd all the coolant leak work will start:

    Coolant hoses
    Rebuild water pump
    Water pump kit
    Hose clamps
    Coolant change
    Change oil and filters
    Heater hose

I will not be replacing the exhaust at that time. If I decide to replace the exhaust, I will keep the car. While I'm at it, I would put in a custom-made sound system as well. Juan from GrandPrix told me it would take 4-6 weeks to get the new stainless steel exhaust (probably from Rutlands), repair the manifolds, and do a meticulous installation of the exhaust. He quoted me around $7000 to do that job.

Very nice example of this model. GLWS. I wonder how much to retrofit to a 5-speed... ;)

Thank you for the kind words. Since determining that the leak is quite minor, I've had a flood of interest.

OH I WONDER what it would take to convert this to a 5 speed! I presume it would be prohibitively expensive.

Just FYI, if you don't see coolant leaking out it might just be the O-rings on the two tubes under the oil filters.
