Absolutely amazing Spyker! Still trying to scrape my jaw off the floor.
Would to get some more detail on your 512 - would’ve PM’ed you but I seem to be struggling with my technology at the moment! Shoot me a direct message back at your convenience.
By federalized, does this mean the car also meets CA emissions? Where was car originally sold? Am interested if car can be registered and pass CA smog. Thx. Martin
This has actually been a California car up until around 2019. I’m really not sure if it was passing inspection annually or if it was just being stored. With the full engine out last year, it was discovered the smog pump was not even functioning and was removed from the vehicle (although I do have it if a reversion is required after an overhaul of the pump). I’m not familiar with CA, but I would hope there could be a historic vehicle exclusion as is it now at 40 years old.
Okay. I will have my car registration person run the VIN with the CA DMV to get history. If I can register it, I would be very interested in your car!;am trying to avoid a hassle with CA’s ridiculous laws. I will pm you. Thx. Martin
Cali sucks, and only cars older than 1975 model year are exempt from smog inspections. Ridiculous, I know. Logically, every year that passes would add a year to the exemption, but it is stuck at 1975. 1976 and newer all need smog checks. My guess is the car should be fine if it was in California for that long. Unless, of course, it was registered in Montana which is highly possible.
I’m pretty certain it was an actual CA registration. I MIGHT have some of the original documentation, but I’ll need to do a scavenger hunt (I just moved and my documentation is everywhere). I’ll get through Mother’s Day and try and find it tomorrow. I find it hard believe CA would smile on 12 cylinders of Italian Glory
Gorgeous Day in Texas a couple of weeks ago to get out! In a world of so many new Ferrari’s, it fun to have a classic that so few people have ever seen in person. Thanks to @tonygreenephotowerks for the great photo. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It is quite late and maybe obsolete reply but in my notes I got two CA registrations : 7ZUK 751 when it was for sale on 08/24/2018 at Bonham's, Quail's Lodge and 1NZC043 thru BAT, Houston on 04/30/2019 if it can help...
Much Appreciated Zaza! It was definitely a California car, and I did find some of the prior registration documents. As to the Bar sticker, I haven't found any such documents or tags on the vehicle itself. Maybe CA would reissue the sticker once they looked it up in their records?
Josh just a quick question, when you did the engine out service did you change or at least look at the carrier gear?
Pretty certain we went over everything we could! I know I had them replace all the bearings we encountered. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Black 512BBi... an epic machine. I saw a blu sera 365BB in San Diego probably 10-12 years ago, but Boxers are rare in the wild. Expensive, but a lot of car for the money. Wish I could still drive these...
Back in the 80s when I was about 13 or 14, I was reading a copy of Cavallino while sitting in the back seat of my dad's Hyundai as we were driving on an interstate in Mass. I heard the roar of an engine as a car passed us; I looked up to see a black Boxer had just zoomed by. I pleaded with my dad to catch up to it, and eventually he did, wringing as much as he dared out of his '87 Excel. As we pulled next to the Boxer, I slapped the Cavallino magazine against the window, cover facing out. The guy waved and with another roar from that exhaust left us like we were standing still; it was awesome. That's my black Boxer in the wild story. I love the OP's car, hope it finds a great home.
My first Boxer experience was Sammy Hagar on 1980s MTV... speed limit actually was 55 mph during my automotively-deprived Ohio childhood.
