There is hole behind the rear license plate, described on p 14 of the owners manual, which lets you release the trunk with a tool. The manual neglects to say what tool to put in the hole. I use a flathead screwdriver pointed upwards, which seems to work. Be careful not to puncture the trunk carpet when you try this.
error in my procedure for the reservoir... I state: "If out of the car, place the reservoir in a vise. etc.. etc..." This should be: "If out of the car, place the brake master in a vise. etc.. etc..." My apologies for the confusion... Mike
On Tuesday I removed the two front calipers. The drivers side took a little longer as I was taking my time making sure the right tools were used, etc... The passenger side took about 15 minutes total, as I knew exactly what to do and expect. Two pictures of the driver side caliper/connection are shown. You will note the caliper was removed with the metal brake line attached. I did try to disconnect it while the caliper as still attached to the car, but ran into an issue. The connection nut sits in a very awkward spot on the caliper. No matter how I tried I could not get a wrench on that felt secure. The connection nut is recessed ever so slightly and sits very close to the caliper walls. As such I decided to disconnect at the next junction and then attempt to remove the lines from the caliper on the work bench. This will allow better viewing and access. One of the pictures shows the junction where I disconnected the lines. This was very easy to access and posed no problems whatsoever. Note on the picture the two wires which are supposed to be connected somewhere on the caliper/brake pads for pad wear indicator. On my car these were not connected at all.. I found that somewhat interesting. Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Addendum to my previous post.. I thought it was interesting the position of the calipers in relation to the wheel. Most cars I have seen have the calipers on the back of the wheel (ie: closest to the firewall), where these are located on the front of the wheel closest to the front end. Additionally, my rubber brake lines were covered by a foam tube which is visible in one of the pictures. If your car has these foam tubes, the condition of the rubber brake lines maybe be difficult to check. I will certainly be replacing these rubber brake lines... Mike

Hello All... I know it's been a while since I posted anything here, but things have been progressing albeit at a very slow pace. If you all remember, Ivan posted some info on breaking down brake calipers (for a Mistral, if I remember correctly) to ease the cleaning, painting, and rebuilding of these calipers. His info applied to those calipers where there was an external brake line linking the two halves of a caliper body. I read this with great interest as these are the type of calipers found on my 1982 QPIII, and probably all other QPIII's as well... With this information, I was successfully able to split my calipers in half. I will say it was quite the effort to do so, and air tools were required for the split, specifically to remove the bolts holding the caliper halves together. The cross-over brake line fittings that go into the caliper body halves were impossible to remove as they are somewhat recessed into the caliper making it very difficult to get a wrench on them. In the end I cut the tube just above the fitting and used an impact wrench to remove them... I will now begin the cleaning of these parts and hopefully report some progress in the near future. Mike Attached are some pictures.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
saw my first one at the. ' Riverside Maserati Museum'. I scrapped one not knowing what I had five years ago. five speed. damn!
changed the instrument cluster. now two dash buttons have lights. emergency fuel pump and rear window defrost. should all the dash buttons light?
All the dash buttons do light but they are very dim until pressed in (turned on). I mean really dim. It needs to be pretty dark in the cabin to see them. Tony
At least changing the flashing "not locked" indicator light if nothing else. I've found that thing flashing way too many times because I didn't lock the doors days ago!
