Very nice Boxer, seems to be in pristine condition. Is it an US spec? What's the mileage? Enjoy it!! Joren
Gary, Nice Car, if your interior ever needs a bit of TLC, Check this stuff out ! http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3163 All the best, Steve
Ferrari never built Boxers for the US market. All were gray market imports and had to be Federalized to meet EPA/DOT requirements. The car has apx. 11K original miles (19Km) on it.
Excellent! California has such crappy roads in (not all, but) too many places. Other than a layover, I've never been through Nebraska - but, for all intents and purposes, the state is flat - which I'll assume means it's pavement is less prone to being one giant pothole after another. Not that it'll macadam bit of difference to you... but - it bodes well for the suspension as well as other components which are adversely affected by less than perfect pavement, such as in, saaaaay L.A.
Gary: where are the flat plates over the outside mufflers? And where is your pillow? You are sleeping with the car right?
Bob, I'm not sure what "flat plates" you are talking about. The car's exhaust has been completely returned to the original Euro configuration. Here's a shot of the side pod "resonators" and another of the exhaust pipes coming out the back.
Gary, A gorgeous example ! I am sure you will always have a ready market of anxious buyers - if you are ever ready to move in another direction ... myself included!!. Boxers look terrific in all red! Congrats !
Bob, those flat plates you are referring to are not OEM and were most likely added by the DOT/EPA conversion company. I have saw a few with those plates too and researched the issue and found that they were added by some DOT/EPA convertors to shield the heat from the cats they installed as part of the conversion. Once you remove the cats, you should remove those plates too. You can look at the BB512i parts book to confirm that those plates are not OEM.
Actually, you can still bring Boxer's into the country. They just have to be federalized, or if done previously, have all the proper EPA/DOT paper work. Frank Parker (also has a Boxer and posts here) says he knows the guy at the DOT who does the federalization stuff for imports and that YES, you can still bring a boxer into the U.S. I would guess that the difficulty would depend on where you live. In Kansas, anything over 20yrs is exempt so it would probably be easier to get one in here than say California. PS - The Boxer will be my next Ferrari. I love my 308GTB, but the Boxer has always been my favorite Ferrari.
Since the weather has been fantastic lately in Seattle, here's some new shots of the Boxer finally out in the sun (bought it during winter). I took them after having a picnic lunch with my girlfriend at a nice little park along the Tolt River in Carnation, Washington. The far background is the "Cascade Mountain Range".
Sooo nice! When did they start painting the skirts body color for that model? ...and why did Ferrari always start models with them black, because on this, the TR, and the 348 the early ones weren't body color, but they changed later. Was it something Ferrari did so they could 'upgrade' the the model down the road? BTW, very nice interior for a 20 yr old car!
As far as I know, Boxers could be special ordered painted in "all one color" for any of the years that they were built. Mine was ordered with all rosso corsa paint, tan interior/carpets, tan leather headliner and a black dash. I personally prefer solid colored Boxers.
The Boxer scheme was an option at that time, so you could opt for the black underside of the body or not. I don´t know why Ferrari started with black skirts and spoilers at first (for example the 348 series) and later bodycoloured ones, I think they changed it just for the better looks. Testarossas on the other hand never had painted frontspoilers or skirts from the factory, this was first changed with the 512 TR series. Any Testarossa with bodycoloured spoilers or skirts is non-original.
