Looking for a permanent way to stop Bubbling on Countach wing. Or if anyone has one for sale let me know.

I had mine fully refurbished at the Lamborghini factory.
But a few years later the "bubble" problem came back.
Seems that the aluminium fasteners holding the 4 delta wing parts together are working their way up against the surface.
Maybe there are some nice lightweight carbon or kevlar wings available instead?
    Cheers,
    Bjoern

Same issue, I have a CF wing on mine but it took a lot of work to get it looking good

I'll try to find the supplier

Going to mount my Alum wing in my living room :)

With the original as a pattern it wouldn't be hard to fabricate a new wing and finish it properly. I've made a few over the years for dragsters, basically the same thing.

    OK....... I'll bite.

How much for a carbon fibre wing?

I'm not sure I really like the CF look on a Countach (it's kind of like putting 24" rims on it), but if it could be painted........well it just might be a viable option for some.

I left a message for them to call me. It looks like the smaller wing for a 86 or newer but will find out if they call me back. and YES IT MUST BE PAINTED TO GO ON A COUNTACH. also wondering if it will mount using stock brackets.

    Thanks Joe

I don't know, it looks to be the correct larger wing to me. It also appears that it has it's own mounts and yes it needs to be painted.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

While being a Diablo guy and have lots of CF all over everything in my VT Roadster, I wonder the match with a Countach.

There are a few CF bits made for my Testarossa but just doesn't look right on the car. I would imagine the same for the Countach. (I prefer CF as it's very easy to clean and maintain)

Even if you paint it, the weave will still show through. I have the optional CF wing on my VT R and the weave shows through....in bright daylight.

I wonder if an aluminum one would be better but with better fastners.....solid core rivets with an orbital riveting machine. I used to manufacture aluminum cookware and we would fasten the steel handle with a solid 1/2 round head solid core aluminum rivet.....very attractive and super strong.

I can't see an aluminum wing being hard to make and fasten together. I've seen a CT wing up close and was amazed that " geez....this whole wing is hand fabricated"

I love the Countach and would hate to see it lose the "era" it was built in.

it looks to me the older, big wing, even with the holes for the adjust

look spot on as dimension and shape so i think they had the original one to copy

    Bob:

I only threw up the link to the CF wing because it was brought up early in the thread. Personally I would never put a CF wing on a Countach. In fact Id rather have the wingless look (as below) than put a repro item on the car. IMO, you already have a wing, and you just need to have it disassembled and properly refinished to prevent the bubbling reoccurring. Any competent body-shop should be able to help you. A genuine Countach wing is a special thing so its worth keeping, I think.

My thoughts on the bubbling is that the core of the wing possibly contains a material (polystyrene) that absorbs moisture when the car is washed and water seeps into the cracks at the end-plates. I don't know that this is the case with your car, and I don't know that all Countach wings have polystyrene cores, but its a theory.

    Good luck with this.

there is a CF wing used on Panteras that is very nice, and was "reasonable" when i was looking at wings when i had my 71 Pantera. i prefer the wingless look though. any of the Pantera shops should have a wing listed.

That's what I was thinking as well. Not a big deal at all to bang one out of aluminum.

The last time I sanded it down I found that it does have polystyrene inside which was wet as well as the aluminum had small spot corrosion holes. I have dried it in a paint booth for many weeks, last time around the polystyrene was dry and the car never got wet, it then got a coat of gorilla hair resin and paint. It lasted 8 months. I think that any humidity in the air just finds its way inside the polystyrene core and then comes out the paint when the sun heats it up. I am looking for a shop that can open and remove the polystyrene and replace it with a better filling repair the small corroded spots and put it back together thus keeping the car all original. My only other option is if anyone has an original large style wing without any defects. I think those are my only two options I will consider for the car is just not complete without a wing. Just my opinion!

i like them with or without it...;)
i am not a fan of late wings though: the small-flat-fixed ones...they do look ...wrong (a flat fix wing ?? ;) )

if you need a large one, i know a member had one for sale
he is in Europe and will cost not few euros to have it at home though (around 2.5k euro or more)

i think it would be more cheap to repair yours

So I opened it up today and this is what is inside. It is not as bad as I thought it to be. I will remove all that polystyrene, Clean up any corrosion, and weld any spots as needed. So here is the BIG Question, What can I put back in it to keep it stiff and will not absorb water?

That's a good question, I'll think about it.

It looks amazingly thin (can you mike the sheet thickness) I would have used aluminum about twice as thick (wouldn't really be that much heavier) and left it hollow. The wings I've made for race cars in the past were that way, perhaps with a few bulkheads riveted in (like a small airplane wing).

I do not have the tool to get the thickness. it is thin and flimsy without the filler.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

How about expanding foam sealant sold by Home Depot. I think the brand is called "tuff stuff"

They're are two types.....dense and not so dence.

Years ago when I was a kid, I did a crazy car stereo in my Porsche. When I expanded the hole cut out for larger speakers, I filled the body cavity with the expanding foam first, cut out the hole and placed the speaker in. This gave the cavity some density and gave a deeper response for the speaker. The foam is waterproof and does not decay for a long time.
