    The gas cap should seal tightly and is not vented to atmosphere. The car has an evap. canister and admits air to the fuel tank only when the engine is running and fuel is being delivered. Mine makes a nice satisfying whoosh when I open the cap at a gas station. If the engine hasn't been run in awhile, then no whoosh.
