1984 400i Auto Chassis ??? on CL

This is definitely not the same car as the other Craigslist car. The bit about cats and smog pump is not good, but may be something someone can work with. I just may take a look at this car and see what's what.

 

Look at this: this same car was on Craigslist, asking $17K, in December. http://karakullake.blogspot.com/2011/12/three-3-ferrari-400is-for-sale-in-bay.html . Now it's $14K. A motivated seller. This could be a good buy for a non-Californian.

 

Well, looks like I will be now be visiting the 400i section as I just purchased the aforementioned car VIN # ZFFEB06000051147.

The car will be shipped from Napa to Oceanside in the following days, and I will follow-up with additional pictures.

Car will need cats but has a California BAR sticker.

This Bay Area Ferrari mechanic I was talking to, about buying a blue '84 5-speed 400i that is owned by a friend of his, told me that this blue car had no cats either, but that the car should pass Smog Check without them. He said something about leaning it out, and something about a CO meter that a K-Jetronic technician should have in his shop. (My guy no longer has the gear, because he works only on carbed cars.) After passing you would restore the tune to the correct specs. It might be worth a shot to give this a try before investing in the cat installation.
